I was there last month saw One MK4 in Maui nothing on the big island everything is rusted out if its that old. The salt and sun kill the paint jobs there alot of cars rolling with black hoods!
What you should do is give the actual pistons going to be used so the machinist so they can machine the block to the exact tolerances you want (stock/forged have different tolerances) thats what you need to find out It may be 20 thou over but depending on pistons you want exact clearances
Ive never used a torque plate not saying its right but Ive never had a problem with rings seating properly (450-500hp) just make sure your deck and head have the right RA for the HG you are using my 2 cents
What I have good luck with is run your stock setup so no tuning is required (less engine run time) and get out on a long stretch and get into 3rd or 4th and accelerate from 1500rpm-4000rpm and let the engine drop back down by its own compression do this 5 times or more if you can after 50miles...
I have one with solids and one with 89 mounts and the solid car feels cheap all engine vibrations can be felt just not my thing some people lovem I personally hate them.
My parents had one back in the day (used) it developed a BHG imagine that so they got rid of it that was 15 years ago I was 16 and I got to drive it a few times and fell in love!!!
