Do forged pistons require different oil?
I have read through the different posts here and I must say it's very informative.
However I do have a few questions:
I have recently had my 7MGTE engine rebuilt with forged JE pistons (and eagle rods). The engine has been built with close to...
Just a "little" update on the car.
Actually it's a horror story that turns out good in the end.
As stated previously in the thread the headgasket blew shortly after I bought the car.
It was bound to happen since it was the original gasket and the car had been doing 75000 miles.
So I...
I found this some months ago
It looks different. Seems to be for turbos with external wastegates.
I have tried following the different tubes but it makes me a bit confused.
My manifold has been on a car for the last 15 years so it has seen some use.
It has one small crack that I'm going to get fixed. I'l do some grinding and sandblasting and eventually ceramic coating. Then we'll see how it looks.
I don't think the guy I bought from knew it was an HKS...
As some of you might have seen I have tracked down an old cast iron manifold for the 7MGTE.
It's a twin turbo manifold.
From looking at pictures I have found here on Supramania it seems that the manifold is a HKS manifold.
I write seems since the HKS letters are not present on my...
I managed to track down the manifold:
I bought it.
As you can see it's cast iron and it has been welded a few places. There is one crack now but I assume it can be welded too.
I will have them refurbished. I'll grind them nicely and then have them sand blastet and ceramic coated...
I just fired up my engine with BC 264 Cams.
The engine has been professionally rebuilt and the cams have been degreed but the cam gears are both set at 0.
The engine idles at 750 rpm but runs a little rough below 2000 rpm.
The engine has been built with JE pistons in one oversize and a...
You can see the FFIM.
It retains alternator and battery (and of course a/c) in stock positions.
I talked to the owner. He told me that he discarded the setup because one turbo blew and also because he felt the setup had too much turbo lag.
The video is from 1991.
According to my information the car was running flawlessly for 10-15 years with that setup.
It was recently replaced with a single setup.
Here is how it looked just before it was removed:
According to the owner:
463.3 hp / 5099 rpm
657.8 nm / 4806 rpm
The story goes that the guy in the video developing the TT-kit was on government funding.
The funds had been given to him in order to research new ways of making cars more environmental friendly (lower emissions and better mileage etc)
But instead he spent the money making cars go faster...
