UPDATE! I picked up a running shortblock and im going to toss it together and use that. Im going to do a hone/re-ring and replace the bearings, even though they looked good. They are Toyota select fit bearings, phew. No guesswork involved. Did some work on the head recently.
Work included...
Right, Toyota is the way to go. Standard sized bearings can be used but you are supposed to do machine work to allow them to fit, only problem is most people don't.
By the way i just measured a set of standard size NDC and King bearings i had and compared them to sizes in the TSRM. The STD size bearings are a full .001-.0015" thinner than the smallest listed bearing in the TSRM. I don't understand how people are getting away with slapping STD size bearings in.
Actually my NA leaked a little bit from that exact spot and it was from the rear exhaust side oil drain, leaking at the head gasket. Take some pics of where its coming from and maybe we could narrow it down.
You have to get the machine work done, see how much they take off the head and block combined, then add those to 1.2mm and then find your proper gasket size.
Make sure when you go to have the block machined you have the rear timing cover bolted to the block! It is the aluminum one that the...
Def go with prosport 60mm premium. They are more expencive but damn it was easy to make it fit. I got one non premium and it was hell getting that thing in there.
Ive done some research with timeserts and i just don't think i want to invest in all the tools for timeserts when i wont be using them primarily for most things. A helicoil tool kit is something that can benefit me for years to come. I have used helicoils for exhaust studs before and i have had...
I would love to have an r134a system that works just as well, mostly because of the availability and price of the refrigerant itself. I hope you get good results out of this! I dont doubt that you will.
EDIT: BTW, those guys over at AC Kits are great. They are actually local to me and i have...
Ive taken off without my seat belt on before by accident, and it felt awkward and i quickly figured out what was wrong. I don't feel comfortable without it at all in fact it makes me feel extremely vulnerable.
I would just do the basic timing belt and seal. I would really consider getting an oil pump drive shaft seal (not sure if that's the other one you got) because its right there and easy to get to right now. Water pump isnt really needed if you don't feel any play in it and no leaks, and tensioner...
Well I am doing some work on my head off the car, and a few of the studs stripped out, so i wanted to Helicoil all of them. What I'm wondering is, are the taps for Helicoils proprietary? I have a very large tap and die set and I would hate to buy a full Helicoil kit if I already have the proper...
