one thing; analyzing the log would still be easier on a pc with the plviewer program. trying to do it on the pda would be difficult.

Also, you would not even be able to log boost or egt on the pda without the extra sensor.

I think the software is worth it. It's much easier to hook up the pda to log data, than setting up a notebook and making sure it's safe secured in the passenger seat.
If you're thinking about using it as a full time display, you'll go through a lot of batteries.
