True. I find his statement with try to tune with 550's hard to believe. He *should* be able to decrease the fuel pressure, make sure that Vf is satisfied, and tune from there to make better numbers, but the upgraded CT is pretty much the bottleneck at that point in the equation...
He's pretty much maxing out the injector duty cycles on the 440's with that amount of power. Check out his A/F's, I'll pass on those, too lean for my tastes, I'll take 11.3-11.7's over his 12.?'s anyday.
Lucky.
A good rule of thumb would be 1cc of fuel per 1HP at about 80% duty cycle max...
Personally, if the gains are close to nill and the ecu is running on full out enrichment from the 5V's according to Vf, then I wouldn't bother with it until you had 550's so that headroom is indeed there ;).
I couldn't give an honest answer on his part, but around here I wouldn't get in trouble with them if they were as bright, or brighter than the stock bulbs. I'm running LED's all the way around on my DD (headlights are the exception) and I've never had any harrasment from it...
Believe it. I've got the full turbo back, intake, 2.5" hardpipes and larger FMIC and I'd say I have around 70 HP to the wheels running off the wastegate. IIRC stock boost on a manual supra is 6.7 psi, I'm somewheres around 8.5-10 right now with just what's on it. I'll have to get an aftermarket...
A 3" DP with an integrated turbo elbow on it will give you close to the most bang for your buck IMO. Your stock exhaust will still hold that gain back quite a bit. 3" test pipe (if you can get away with one) will help out lots too.
Are you sure the issue with Malloy's overboost was due to a mechanical malfunction of the BOSS turbo he had? I thought it was due to a FUBAR'd MBC. Something about the little check valve inside melting... :dunno:
Under larger amounts of boost it may force air out through it, resulting in a very hard to fix boost leak. How big is the leak? Is it small enough to drill and re-tap?
I don't think anyone's going to notice if it's illegal or not. I'm curious to see if they are fairly visible in the day time. As long as they are as bright, if not brighter than stock bulbs, he shouldn't get harrassed...
QFT
I have always done this and it does pay off. I've found numerous oil filters with missing o-rings in them and dented canisters inside of a non-damaged box before. The best thing I've read so far this morning ^^^.
I'd also like to note that if anyone goes to and tries it, THEY DO SO AT THEIR OWN RISK! You have been warned. Some have blown their engines and it's been blamed on this, whether that is the case or not is hard to prove from setup to setup.
I would also suggest for them to send out their...
