I have read the postings and web sites until my eyes bled now I need some clarification please. I am trying for modest HP i.e. high 300 to low 400 that is tractable as a weekend driver yet strong enough to produce good times at the track.
Currently my car as it runs now has 3" pipe from...
Head was resurfaced, block and timing cover were machined, head was retorqued and 5000 miles later the head gasket failed. That will be the last time I try to save money by buying ebay no name parts.
It was an "urban legend" back in the early 50's and 60's that by sprinkling a little scouring cleanser down the carb while the engine was running would result in the rings seating better. The myth resulted in a few seized engines. No, I never tried it. The statement was ment to be humorus for...
There are no such things as miracle cures only people making money off of other peoples ignorance.
Most of that stuff is just solvent based (think diesel, kerosene etc) intended to soften and swell the rubber seals or dissolve oil / carbon build up. OR really thick and sticky oil additives...
How can you determine the correct thickness if the milling specs are unknown? i.e. I bought the engine in a "basket" from someone who couldn't complete the project. The block and timing cover were milled as well as the cylinder head, nice machine work but no way to aquire the measurements.
Recently I replaced the radiator (had a hole in it) as well as the t-stat and upper rad hose. After 10 min of driving I noticed that the upper rad hose is hot as I would expect it to be as well as the heater hoses but the lower radiator hose is only luke warm. I felt the radiator and noticed...
Which begs the question, how would you have done it if the engine were still in the car? i.e. there isn't much room for a 3/4 impact gun, the block of wood in the crank wouldn't work and its a lot of work to remove both cams to use the rope trick. The crank holding tool I tried using just...
Years and years ago I was doing a tune up on a V6 El Camino and while removing the spark plugs one of the insulators broke off. Assuming that it had just fallen to the ground I installed the new plugs. When I tried starting the car the engine locked up! The stupid insulator had fallen inside...
Patience, prayer and persistence.
Work it loose slowly, a little at a time using PB
Pray that it doesn't snap off
Try the heat and candle wax trick.
Use the right size socket and breaker bar
It shouldn't be about the car so much as about the abilities of the driver. In SLC right now it's raining side ways which means it will be snowing soon in ID, use your head and drive carefully
What if you were to use a 3" in dual 2 1/2" out (Magnaflow) installed at mid point then you could run 2 1/2" pipe to each side ending in a twin pipe chrome tip
Couldn't you Mig weld a bolt to the race making sure to keep the heat in check?
Yes, I have heard all the horror stories of welding bearings to journals, blowing electronics etc etc but if done correctly instances as described won't happen.
