After replacing a BHG, I reassembled everything. After running the car for a little bit (3-5 minutes), it would start leaking oil at the front of the engine where the head meets the block. After reading on it, I figured out that I didn't put sealant at those two spots right under the HG like it...
Some of this is fairly new to me. We have not done anything with the timing light. My brother and my best friend are mechanics so I will see about doing that in the morning. And this is probably all in the TSRM correct?
Ok, the timing is perfect considering it at TDC. So its at 0 TDC. But it still is idling rough. The white smoke is virtually gone, so I guess there wasnt a whole lot of water in the exhaust. I also filled it up with new premium unleaded gas.
I just finished replacing the HG on my '91 n/a, I had a valve job done on the head along with it resurfaced and ready to be installed. I then started the car and after a few cranks it turned over. It idled rough and would die unless I didnt hold the gas pedal down a little bit. White smoke then...
Thinking about swapping. I was wondering which one would be less frustrating to do, the 1jzgte or 7mgte? I have a '91 n/a.
Which would be the best choice in swapping?
I am thinking about going turbo, and I wanted yalls opinion. Either a 7mgte or a 1jzgte, which would be a quicker swap and will give me less headaches?
There is absolutely no compression on cylinder 5, and very low compression on cylinder 1. All the others are fine. So it can't be the head bolts, because the other cylinders are holding pressure just fine. It's either valves or bad rings. ugh...
But that seemed to be the arguement that I have read about over and over again. I read that they were alright to use, but then again I read they weren't. I think a valve is bent because of having no compression on the 5th cylinder. Looks like I need to go take it apart again. :3d_frown:
Yes I cleaned them out. There were maybe two or three from each engine that the threads weren't perfect, all the others were fine. Not sure on why the threads would be bad though. But they weren't like horrible, just not perfect.
I took the head to a machine shop and they pressure tested it and it was perfect.
Timing is right.
I used the stock head bolts. I had an extra parts engine that I was able to use some of the good head bolts off of it, only the ones that had a good thread. I torqued them down to, I believe...
I took my car over to a mechanic friend of mine so he could look it over and double check everything since this is my first BHG job. After replacing the HG and putting everything back together, the 1st and 5th cylinders are getting very low compression and won't allow the car to turn over. I...
Im still learning big guy, its my first supra and Im learning as I go....That explains why i can smell gas through the TB after tryin to start it. thanks..
Sounds good guys. I tried starting it up again this morning and it didn't back fire or anything of that sort at all. So thats a plus. I will try and figure out why its not turning over though and get back to you guys if I need any further assistance. I appreciate it. Youre a gentleman and a...
