Yeah I have one. I was just curious if the gasket for it came with the Fel-Pro "Head Set" normally. I don't know what the gasket would look like so I haven't taken it apart yet. Don't wanna take something apart I can't put back together.
Not familiar with the cost of redoing the bottem end but I know I've pretty well tallied up a very simple rebuild on the top end of my engine at around $850ish. That's without the fancy head gasket and ARP head bolts. The machine work for the head alone is gonna run me $450. I figure the...
I am redoing the top end of my motor and I know what ya'll are talking about. Is the gasket for it supposed to be included in the Fel-Pro "Head Set"? I noticed when I took the upper part of the intake manifold off that all the emissions reburn ports were all either mostly or totally blocked on...
Anyone had problems running the Fel-Pro head gasket? I bought the Fel-Pro Head Set for my 7MGE and it comes with a regular head gasket. I know most recommend a metal one but has anyone actually had any problems with the Fel-Pro?
After adding up all the things I'll need for this job, it...
WHAT?! LOL, I never said I read anything stupid in here. I just said this is where I was getting most of my information. This and a few of the other BHG threads here in the n/a board.
Think I'm gonna have to go kinda cheap on some of the parts now though. The ARP head bolts are the first...
Right.... tape.... I don't know man, there aren't enough colored markers in the world to label all the vacuum lines/fuel lines/random hoses I have under the hood. Not to mention the wiring harness *sigh*....
Well I haven't touched the car in a week or so but I messed with it some yesterday morning. Got the crank pully off with a 3 1/2ft bar. Put it in 5th and went to town as was suggested. The motor did turn backwords about 25 degrees or so but I just returned it by hand back to TDC....(actually...
Well I already pulled my distributor. Wasn't thinking about it when I first started pulling crap out and I pretty much just started yankin, LOL. I know about where it goes though. I guess hypothetically as long as the engine is lined up at TDC, and the distributor is as well, it won't really...
When your putting the distributor back in, how do you know you've got it sitting on the exact teeth it needs to be against to be perfectly lined up instead of being a tooth off?
Well I'm trying to keep the car at TDC. I guess considering I'm gonna be taking the head off, it won't really matter that much........ in fact now that I think about it it won't matter at all. Boy I'm really gonna need help when it comes time to put this all back together at TDC though! LOL!
Really? Did you notice any performance gain from this? I know some people claim to gain some performance on smaller engines by replacing the crankshaft pully with a lighter weight one but never tried it. Might get a price on one when I go to Toyota to get the other stuff I need for this job.
Cool, I've taken off a few crank pullies in the past but it has been a while. I thought I remembered chocking the flywheel with a big screw driver on my Conquest TSI but I couldn't remember. When I did the timing belt on my OZ Lancer I was able to just use an impact to get it off but I've...
Speaking of the exhaust manifold, I think only like 2 of the manifold studs were actually tight. The others didn't require any "breaking loose", they just turned. I examined the studs and they don't appear to have any signs of cross threading on them so I'm hoping all is well there.
Also...
I'm in the middle of taking my car apart to replace a head gasket and timing belt. I have come to a couple of stoppers though.
1. How do you get the crankshaft pully off? I read the TSRM and they say to use these specialty Toyota tools. I tried an impact wrench and it wasn't strong enough...
Take it apart and reverse the clutch disc and put it all back together again and just see what happens. I went through my entire clutch system in a Mitsubishi Conquest I changed clutches in and it was having the same problem. As a last resort I took it all apart and the clutch disc was backwards.
Hey man, thnx for doing this. I'm sure it'll help as I can't understand half of what I'm reading in the TSRM. One thing I wanted to point out though as I've already removed mine, before you yank the distributor out, make sure you mark where it is pointing at TDC, as well as where the base is...
