Did I do something wrong? The gasket isn't fitting. It says it's for the 7MGE engine. I'm half tempted to just use the old gaskets. They seem to be fine, besides the fact that the guy who last owned the car put in A TON of sealant.
are any of the nuts and bolts I'm taking off needed to be screwed in with a torque wrench? Cos I don't have one but my friend has a shop and I know he'd have them.
thanks for the reply, I was kinda waiting around for an answer before I went out and tore it apart some more lol.
Oh one other thing, can I use that material that's blank and you cut out your own gaskets? Or is that kinda stuff easy to break?
I'm in the middle of the valve cover gasket replacement. I have a few questions so I'd really appreciate it if you guys could give me some info.
I've taken off two of the bolts in red, and loosened the other two on the bottom. I can't get that stuff off though, am I supposed to take off...
All right I'm ready to try and replace the valve cover seals. Is there any last things you guys think I should know before I start. Any forgotten do's and don'ts?
EDIT: I called about the valve cover gaskets and they said they have them at shucks for $23.00. They said I need the upper intake...
Hey everyone
I'm kinda new to the forum. I just bought a 88 Supra from Bremerton for $1,500. I didn't know you guys had meets in Centralia. I used to live there. Now I live in Chehalis. My Supra blew the valve cover seals less then 24 hours after I got it. I'm gonna be fixing it up soon so...
Ahh I see, it makes much more sense now. I'm sure it won't be hard to fix. I remember seeing LOTS of orange looking goop and goop fingerprints on the hoses and stuff and all along the edge of the valve covers. I've heard before when there's that much sealant that it's actually bad. Is that true...
Okay first off I wanna say thanks so much for all your help. I've actually learned a few things.
after seeing that link that iwannadie posted, I got a better idea of what I'm doing and what I'm replacing. The bolts circled in red is already explained. I was wondering if that's probably the...
I don't know very much about mechanics, but my friends do. Most of the time when their cars tick or knock they say it's the "Tick Of Death". They say it happens when their oil is low. They usually put some oil in it and it fixes the problem.
Found this pic on eBay.
1.) What is this piece and what does it do? mine is sealed off but my instructor has a 89 Supra and his has a little rubber cap. Is mine supposed to have that too?
2.) This one isn't too big of a deal. It split down the middle when around the same time that my car...
yea now that you mention it, some of my hoses are rock hard too. One even cracked so I replaced it. I'll try and just do the little fixes I guess. I'll take some pics and post there here tomorrow if I can. I'll circle the parts that I found bad and let you guys tell me if they're anything major.
yea I'm not sure on what to do. I'm worried that I'll fix the valve cover gaskets and something else will break. I'm saying that because the guy who owned it last obviously didn't know the difference between a monkey wrench and a monkey's ass. If he lost a bunch of hoses and bolts that I CAN...
I went and took a look at the engine today. There's a lot more wrong with it then I thought. There's a bunch of nuts and bolts missing here and there, that I didn't notice till today. A few hoses missing. I can only imagine what else would break if after I fix the valve cover seals. I've decided...
I've written down a list for next time I go to the Toyota dealership. So far I've got:
-2 valve cover gaskets (11213 - 42020)
-12 valve seal washers (90210 - 07001)
-Y pipe gasket (17176 - 16020)
-NGK Wires (NGK # TX07)
-NGK Spark Plugs (BCPR5EP-11 or 2097)
-Valve Cover Sealant
Am I...
