just unplug and remove the tems actuators and they will work. if you want to do a better job of it you can remove more things, but it isn't necessary for the new shocks to work. the ride height should stay the same. i would replace the bump stops while i was in there.

What year is your car? You are correct the connectors and wiring are different due to different things moving around (cruise control for example.) It is possible to rewire and change things around (Jeff Lange did it) but to make it easy on yourself it would be best to find one that matches...

Yeah the whole combination switch assembly comes off. It is possible to replace just the arm but then you gotta take the thing all apart and risk messing it up. Here's what it looks like removed from the car:
