Yup, it's definately happening- broke another R154! 3rd died first after 8 passes. Then after 7 more, 4th died.
Funny thing is, the best run was without 3rd gear :D (ok so maybe I cheated and turned the boost up a bit)...
IJ added an electric water pump to supplement the factory mechanical one at low and high engine rpms. It was a tight fit, but he said it improved his cooling all around. iirc, the mechanical pump starts to cavitate around 6-7krpm, and he spun his to 8000.
Little things, Emilio. Little things will be handled!
Driveshaft
Speedo
Shifter
Adapter
Rear gears
etc
We'll see, but I have found no affordable mk4 shells as of yet
Clutch will be EZ, just get some 2jz twins for my spec clutch.
Adapter will be more tricky, but we'll make it happen.
As for fitting it, I'm prolly going to need a bigger hammer.
Most of the cost is getting the transmission in the first place. The rest is EZ mode.
Hokay, I will preface this by saying that I have spent considerable time trying to get down to hard facts, get straight answers from manufacturers, and opinions from as many shops that I can. That said, I have about 17 different explanations for what's going on and that's no help.
Background...
All of the information is on the first page of this thread, although I will go through it this weekend to make sure that everything is as up-to-date as it can be!
@Newgen,
Thanks, Matt
Title changed to better reflect what this has become. Yup, broke it good, so now I'm talking with SPEC to see if we can build some 'give' into the system, hopefully avoiding this situation from happening again.
Pulled my R154 on suspicion of having hurt it on the dyno. 3-4 shift rail just doesn't move as smoothly as the 1-2 and 5-R. I knew it was close to the breaking point power, but was hoping I'd be safe for just a little longer...
Used in the classifieds is the best place for them. You'll have to do research on the different EMS units to find which is the best for your situation.
I like AEM because its common, Shane likes it, and they made plug and play versions for our cars.
Shane at DB performance is the only tuner I will use here. That said, I am unsure if he will tune a piggyback, they're risky business. I always suggest standalone (AEM/Stinger/ProEFI/etc) when you're going above 400hp. Crap in = crap out :(
1Z Coils worked like a boss. No breakup at any boost level, timing was consistent and it ran very well at idle. More happy nothing broke, to be honest.
