    Factory ECU programming

Chips were burned with the programs at the factory and either soldered onto the board or installed into sockets on the main board. Unlike their modern counterparts, you weren't able to 'flash' the chips with different programs easily. IIRC, you could re-burn them, but that's beyond my experience.

A new manual transmission is in town... The 'V154' !

Problems with high-hp R154's: Shredding gear teeth off of the input shaft and counter shaft. Breaking Synchro sleeves Shredding 2nd, 3rd gear teeth. Most of that happens at 700+hp/tq, from the research I've done. I've personally broken the sleeve for 3-4, and the 3-4 shift fork on another...

    Fresh built R154 problem.

Sounds like a bearing failing to me. Grinding away and creating drag that can move the vehicle. Were it me, I'd tear it apart and check every single bearing. Could also be a forgotten spacer/washer/shim as well. Good luck!

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

My $5 is on worn/burned starter contacts. Pull the starter and remove the solenoid plunger cover- the contacts are copper and are usually lower grade copper on remans that I've seen. I know my dealer stocks the contacts, maybe your local dealer does too! Be sure to clean the plunger contact...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

I've got it angled as much as I can to the left, to the point where it's nearly touching the E-brake handle in the 1-2 gate's throw range. Since I put my car into gear with the parking brake on sometimes, I figured I didn't want to smack my hand on the handle every time I do going to 1st. Once...

    Wastegates..

Just make sure its easy to get to, as that makes changing springs so much easier. Also, V-band is the best attachment method I've ever seen- so easy to work with!

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Thanks, this year is going to be a little experiment- I have the TRD, Scion TC, and a custom stainless knob. I'm going to try them all to see if there's any real benefit to having a heavy shift knob for racing. The TRD is lightest, the Scion one is a little heavier, and the stainless one is a...

    Wastegates..

So here's what I've experienced in the wastegate department: Stock turbos with stock internal wastegates work pretty well in stock form, with stock boost. Once you start to push the boost up, you gain power but your exhaust is holding you back. Once you upgrade the exhaust, the stock internal...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Finished fine-tuning the shifter and welded it all solid. Stock shifter (was sogi'd) but I extended and re bent it to suit my driving position. 3rd gear Neutral 4th gear

    Steve's mildly out-of-control build

It's a tricky thing to balance short throw with leverage. That's the problem I had with the V3 shifter- it felt hard to get into each gear, and I missed a bunch of shifts- so I'm trying stock again. Can't hurt. Here's plan B in case the V160 doesn't work out...

    Steve's mildly out-of-control build

Yup, like I said, if the adapter plate doesn't work out I'll probably just sell the V160 to pay for a PPG gearset for the broken R154 and have a race-only trans and the built 'street' trans. It'll make a matching set with the 3.73 spooled diffy (if Weir ever finished R&D on it) and my 3.91 with...

    Steve's mildly out-of-control build

No inserts, just a head with the proper torque applied and she's holding up great! Only reason I blew the first HG was the crud in the cooling system plugging the radiator, overheating it. Got that sorted out and it's been great since! I even got to drive it a couple nights ago which was weird...

    Ridiculous 1000HP 7M Street MK3 Build

It's doable, but you have to find the correct pulley. I was lucky and got one from Rabid Chimp Performance before he closed down his operation. It could probably be used as-is, but the T-belt is a bit close to the edge for me to feel safe, so I machined a 1/8" spacer to get it more in line with...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

I just threaded my new shift knob. Nothing crazy, but it weighs 17 ounces and is made of solid stainless steel. I'm going to try this whole weighted shift knob thing out. In the case it sucks, I still have my TRD knob and a Scion TC knob to fall back on.

    Block/head engineering question

My take on the situation, mostly opinions and first thought stuff here: The problem is going to be heat transfer and thermal load across the block. The reason most water jackets are so big is so the block warms up and cools down as evenly as possible. If you have hot/cool spots on the block...

    Rough takeoff

Sounds like mine when I had an atmospheric BOV and stock ecu. Makes it run stupid rich at cruise and takes a bit for it to get past that dead spot from a stop. Might help, might not- good luck figuring it out!

Highest street powered 7M un USA??

Is Tony's car still active or is it mothball'd/apart? Same applies to every other car since this is about current runners/drivers. Always like watching the "7M love" video with him vs Ryan. Wonderful noises, I say.

Would yall recommend using a BOV w/ an anti-surge housing?

It's even cooler sounding in person...but not so cool when you realize you have to change your setup to preserve the reliability of it all.

    ***SM Member Horsepower List***

Great power, but to get on the list you'll need to squeeze 7 more ponies outta her- 422 is currently the gatekeeper power for spot #30.
