I ended up fixing the truck the next day. I knew it was an ignition problem so i started poking around and saw that one of the plug wires had been pinched. The insulation was cut so the spark was going straight to ground. Some electrical tape to hold it over until the new wires get in and...

Not sure where the check valve is but the relief valve shouldn't be too hard to get to.
Yeah, you never know. Bearings are pretty cheap though. If I were in the same situation as Mondo I would try replacing those bearings now. Spinning a bearing is def no bueno. Funny thing, I'm swapping my old GE into my 82 as well.
Only one way to find out. I'd be surprised but you never know. look up staticpat's rod knock fix. You can replace bearings while the engine is still in the car if you're you're brave/foolish enough. That might be enough to hold you over.
That sounds like rod knock to me. It's hard to tell from a video but between the sound and your oil pressure I think you've got a rebuild in your near future.
The PVC hose is the big L-shaped hose that goes from the block the head on the front driver side, right behind the alternator.
Ticking is a high pitched, high speed sound from the head caused by worn valve shims. Knocking is a deeper, slower sound most noticeable around 3000 RPM caused by...
Are you burning any oil or is the pressure just low? What was your pressure like before you did the head gasket job? Before pulling the pan off I would remove the upper timing cover and look down at the oil pump driveshaft. Make sure nothing happened to it when the belt was loose. Check your...
FIPG, the cork gaskets suck. You can get the pan out if you lift the engine with a hoist. I'm not saying I would recommend it, I'm just saying it can be done.
That depends entirely on the owner my friend. It doesn't take much to pull the plugs and run a compression test. Shine a light in the combustion chambers and see what the pistons look like. Wear that causes that kind of consumption won't be subtle. If the problem is only in one or two...
Do a compression test before you change anything. A quart every two miles is a ton for worn rings, especially if it came on suddenly. That sounds more like a burned piston or a cracked oil passage. Did you pull the spark plugs out or is the oil on top where the wires connect?
