could it be piston slap? maybe your injectors? it doesnt really sound like rod knock like you said, cause its not that kind of a constant beat/tone from the engine... turbo sounds nice though. haha

where did you place it in the engine bay? i remember reading about them "over-heating" and it caused a bunch of problems... which is why i just got a switch and hard-wired it.

i've grinded the gears more than a few times, mis-shifted, had entirely too much fun... so in short, yes, its a well built, strong, yet "flexible" transmission, i also run redline mt-90 in it. and when you start getting comfortable, try and bark the tires from 1-2nd, its fun! hahaha

need to polish those ITB's and thorw some filters on em... i would hate to know how much shit you suck up... haha

you should keep this updated with how long your bottom end lasts... im VERY curious to see how long it lasts... and what were your clearances when/if you check them?

CLR works the same... lol i just got done soaking my hotside of the turbo in a mixture of 1/4 CLR, 1/4 "awesome" and 1/2 water... overnight, pull it out, and its clean, still wire wheeled it though, gonna go get some high temp paint to coat it now.
