I got my car back today and will definitely get the stand alone. I just poured a ton of $$ into the car and the reward is very much worth it. Just BPU upgrades with a 57 trim running stock boost (boost controller is not setup yet while I break it in) and the car is a total rocket.
I have to...
Car's home... break-in time.
Running just stock boost with all the upgrades, I have to say that I am very impressed with the 57 trim as it sits along with all the other little goodies. I got my Nashman shortshifter on and that is one excellent little shifter. My throws are like non-existant now...
Actually, that is true and not true. Every car has different "quirks" and the 7M has some nice ones. If you know the engine well, you know where to look.
However, having said that, mechanics are mechanics... a fuel starved engine has the same characteristics regardless what engine it is. Knowing...
To be very honest, most of what I do to my car is because its what I think is "best", not cost effective. Its not a car I intend on ever selling (my end-of-life keeper) so I dont skimp. The standalone is more for getting the power with less risk. I love the feel of a Supra when it pulls on...
well... if your going with 18's your sacrificing traction.. remember.. a lot of the "hook" you get is from sidewall flex. An 18" rim has a very small sidewall.. so the tire is much stiffer. You should be on 16's with a good wheel. Remember, 17's and 18's are more for looks than performance. You...
Not sure as I am still on the learning/reading/research curve. AEM does have a really nice unit though (been reading more about it). I dont think I would consider a HKS unit though if my tuner wasn't very familiar with it. From what I can tell, HKS support on the unit isn't stellar...
Not quite...
Generally.. not needed for normal driving conditions.. just if you like those nice hard pulls... lol. Its a precaution more than anything. Normally excess oil can be just as damaging as lack of oil, apparently we have a little extra room.. :)
Looking over everything, I think in the end, I will be going a bit overkill and getting the HKS fcon VPro simply because thats the one that RCTS is recommending and because it can take everything I want to throw on without any issues. The price differences between this and the other ones I...
rarely. Mine was original and died about 3 years back. I paid someone over 1000.00 to replace it.. lol. I was going to tackle it myself.. in the end, Im glad I didn't. There are some that can do it quickly, but its the very last thing to remove when you take apart the entire dash and it scared...
Yeah, I suck at "tuner brain" so far, so am going to shell out the money to make up for brain deficiency. If I had a really good grasp at it, I would be going the megasquirt 3 route, but me being stupid could cost me a lot more than letting others with more experience and knowledge hammer it...
The knock sensors were a concern when I added the wiseco forged pistons, apparently wrapping them in duct tape can help silence them a little to compensate although I will attack that bear if it roars.
I was under the assumption that one of the first things to go would be the AFM with stand...
for the interior/b pillar, etc... it is a very long shipping time, very poor communication (if at all) and their packing sometimes misses items... so you gotta wait even longer.
I want the CF console and lid, the A pillars (2 or 3 pod, but the other side as well), the door sill replacement...
I was looking at the CHT and not really liking how its done if its done at the base of the sparkplug. I think I may ignore that and just settle with an EGT. For the most part, I dont truly expect those problems because I wont be hard running. Nice to have, but I am marking it as "not a...
