I cut the metal piece off completely. I did not want any of that material causing any variations in clamping pressure between the head and block.

There's nothing wrong with Hankook tires. Hankook and Kumho are both made in the same country, and they both have tire models that absolutely kick ass for the price.
Jaguar XJ220. Aftermarket created an S-type 220, capable of top speeds of 250mph, along with a full, luxurious leather interior with all creature comforts as well. Definately a nice ride that I'd buy.
Take the TB off, use a dremel, and file a line down the middle removing enough material, so you can then use a flat head screw driver to continue to use the screw...
The unit gets freaked out by turbos. That's why the mph/hp is whack. Or at least it was on mine. Time was actually somewhat decent, within three tenths pretty consistently.
I say you need a tune up, or you may not have as much compression as you think you do.
