Yeah its a recut, and the animation quality is improved a touch, some of the color pallets on the older episodes are changed and so fourth. It goes by a fair bit faster from what I'm seeing, more fighting and less unneeded dialogue.

Welcome aboard. The 1g has almost no aftermarket support, anything there is for it would be very old and very rare jdm parts. It would be interesting to see someone build one up but you're correct in going with a swap as you'll be far better off. I'm curious to see what wiring harness the 1g...
