    Videos of good running Supras

crisp, you using that smiley while talking about seagulls has me a bit worried :aigo: Blue, what happened to make you need a rebuild? I think I hear a bit of actual rod knock in the first video but can't be sure. The "after rebuild" videos sound almost identical to my engine, which has also...

NPR Pistons, How good are they?

I'm running them, but haven't had them in for very long so I can't really comment on longevity, but they look to be good quality. They are cast stock replacements like Doward said, so I wouldn't look to boost very high on them :)

    Silver MKiii Supra suggestions.

What he said. The sawblades might even grow on you, I love mine :)

So there IS something wrong.... if Supras exist without the tapping or misfire (poonk is what it sounds like to me, hard to find a spelling for the noise!) it can't be normal. :(

^Yeah, mine shakes a tiny bit when it happens too. I think crisp may be onto something with the valves sticking, that would explain both the noise and the misfire. I still have my original valves and guides, I only replaced the seals, springs, and retainers. They all seal great but I never did...

The little miss at idle? Just like a little "poonk?" Mine does it too when I've been driving it a while and let it idle for a good bit. It only does it once in a blue moon but I'm always wondering about it... I have new MSD wires and new plugs now, along with a rebuilt engine and it still does it!

I'm feeling much better about it now :) The sound actually pretty much disappears when revving, I can hear the lighter ticks of the valves if I really listen but the deeper tapping is gone. I've reshimmed my valves 3 times but the last time was after some head work so maybe after running it they...

 I hear it I hear it! JDM, how long have you driven around with that noise? If you haven't had any issues because of it for a long time I might just be ok :) I left my stock BOV when I put the SSQV on mine too, I should probably take it out... the ricers love it though. "You have TWO...

    Videos of good running Supras

Wow, I was getting concerned reading that! At "recently it got louder and louder" my heart rate actually increased slightly! I think GTEs may tick more because there's more places for exhaust leaks (which is actually probably very common) and in general GTEs are beat on a lot more than N/As. I'm...

It seems most Supras I hear have the sound to some degree or other, but I still don't know if it's ok or not. And mine's louder than most...

Spark plug wire pulling made little difference (noise still there) which is why I even risked driving it at all. I don't know about the exhaust leak.... it did leak before due to the stripped studs but with the helicoils in place I torqued everything down to specs with new OEM gaskets. The...

Funny tapping noise coming from my engine

I've started a thread on this already, but I'm back at school now and quite far away from the car so I can't do much for a while. :nono: I did snag some videos of the car idling before I left though, and while they're not great quality you can really hear the noise in some of them (it's actually...

    Videos of good running Supras

Yeah, my phone isn't exactly great and uploading it just makes it worse :( But you're right, there's a noise that's sounds different than the main valvetrain static. I have new helicoiled studs and new gaskets on the exhaust manifold, turbo, and downpipe. I do have a divorced downpipe so a...

http://www.facebook.com/v/56104698387 This is a small snippet that I finally got online in working order. Amazing how difficult it is to upload videos from a Verizon phone! :3d_frown: Anyway, the sound is quite loud in the video. It's the clacking sort of noise

Haha I like the clip! "I think it sounds pretty good...." *rev* I did hear it a little bit on your car too, but mine's louder :( From what I gathered in your build thread you've never had a rod knock or anything though right? Perhaps it is just the valvetrain... though I hear both valves...

Whats the rarest thing you've found in the junkyard

Wow, considering wrecked shells go for like $7k on ebay that's quite a find! The only semi-rare thing I've found is a super monitor :( There's so many people at the local junkyard things get snatched up like crazy! The only reason I got the super monitor is cause the supra just arrived (I...

    Videos of good running Supras

I've been trying to get videos up for a while, I can't seem to get my cell phone to cooperate :( I've got the valvetrain noise (along with a belt squeak once in a while and throw out bearing noise and other assorted minor noises), but there's also this deeper tapping that sounds louder when I...

    Bluechulappa's 89Turbo restoration

Just went through your thread, and I have to say, that is one nice Supra! I've also combated a BHG and RK in the same order and just got mine running too. My oil pressure gauge rested at the same place, sometimes lower, but when I put a mechanical gauge directly in the port I was getting around...
