you didnt by chance put new connectors on your cps? the reason i ask is that i did that and connected the red to red and blue to blue and what i thought was yellow to yellow and the three commons to black. I was pulling my hair out when i finally traced the wiring back to g1 g2 and ne and found...
ive got oil in the timing belt case and also on both sides of the front of the motor. I just put it together. New seals and gaskets. Iam in the process of pulling the front covers off. if anyone knows a common reason this occurs please let me know. meanwhile i will be checking seals and gaskets...
I think you might be thinking of the coil resistance test. Thanks for your reply but i hooked up another igniter and set the range at 200k ohms and I did get momentary continuity between the coil feed neg and ground. Thats what the book says i should get. Still wont start.
Has anyone out there used a digital ohm meter to perform the igniter test. in the illistration it shows an analog meter. all i have is a digital and when I do the test the meter does not register. Anybody?
I was just making sure that the three common wires were g- and connected to the black wire coming from the harness side? Thank you for verifying this. I have been trying to track down the problem when I have spare time(not alot) for a while. Ineed to get my sons running at least so he has a way...
I have two 89 turbo models. I have done work on both. Do the three wires that are joined together from the cps hook to the black wire(G-)? Just wanted to make sure as I have put new connectors on both cars and they will not start. No spark. I have tested the ign components and wiring back to the...
When I bridge fp & b on the diag plug it seems to be pumping fine. When I pull the jumper out and shut off the key, should the fuel system be under pressure? If it isnt would it be safe to say the reg. is no good? When I turn on the key(no jumper)I dont hear the fuel pump or get any spark...
Thanks grim, I am just getting off work only home on weekends. I will try to track down this mistake in the morning and talk to you guys tomorrow I hope.
Thanks again
Thanks for the reply, I wasnt sure about the timing light thing. Yes you are correct it wont start. When you say hitting do you mean the cranking speed changes from it trying to fire? I am pretty sure there is no spark. I tried starting fluid w/ no results. the plugs smell a litle like fuel but...
I just wanted to make sure that when using an inductive timing light while cranking the engine, if indeed there was spark the light would flash? Or does the motor have to be running? I have tested all of the ignition components following the directions and also swapped them out on a running...
I have the same problem with my 89. weak coil spark when i test them. No spark (that I can see)while cranking. Not just one supra, but both that I have. They both ran before disasembly. One had a spun rod bearing and the other had a bhg. I read this thread but I dont understand about the problem...
Well I guess cloudy oil means blown head gasket. I must of missed somthing because I pulled the head and it doesnt look like it was leaking there but the turbo shaft has all kinds of play so i think the seals are probobly bad hence water in the oil. You guys sure said a lot but it was no help...
Thanks for all the input guys, I ran it around the block and noticed, when it was still cold, some steam out the exaust. that went away as it warmed up. when I got back and checked the oil it was looking a littlt cloudy. blown head gasket I figure. No other way to get water in the oil is there...
I pulled the plugs and regapped them at 31 thou. The #6 plugs insulator was discolored and the ground strap showed no sign of heat. Also it appeared to have oil on it. It fired up with a little effort and idled smooth for a few seconds and then started to miss. I ran a compression test a few...
Is valve cover #3 essential and is there a way to keep oil out of the the spark plugs. I bought another 89 and changed the plugs' The next day it seemed like they were fouling. this 89 has the #3 valve cover which my other 89 does not. The latter is the one I rebuilt and cannot get spark. Can...
I have tried everything, tested the coils, igniter(grounded) and cps. I checked the wiring harness to the ecu. Plugs and wires ok. still no spark. Does any one have any more ideas. Does anyone know a supra witch doctor, cause I swear this thing is cursed. Now the other 89 that I bought died on...
Thanks for the very helpful info on testing the ign system. I have checked all these things except for the wiring from the igniter to the ecu and the cps to the ecu. My wife needed a car to drive untill we can get a new one so I picked up another 89 turbo for 1700. Its pretty clean and runs...
Jet, thanks for the quick coil test. they work. is there somthing besides the resistance and air gap measurements for the cps? the3 measure 170 ohms and I checkedthe air gaps are fine. There is one thing i left out. the igniter i bought was not new. I still have not run the 3v test on it. The...
Sorry guys, didnt mean to start anything. thanks raw, I did ground it and it didnt have any effect. My primay resistance on the coils is 7 ohms. that is 2 more than the specs allow. I was hoping it would be a drastic difference in the resistance if they were bad. Also they all 3 read the same. 7...
