So was driving the Supra today, opened her up a little bit on the road and all the sudden the battery light and the brake light came on and voltage dropped to 12...
I thought, "Great there goes the alternator or the belt..." But I opened up the hood and the belt was good and spinning, not...
You did jump te1 and e1 when looking for an engine code right? Won't show up unless you do. Sounds like possible MAFS issue to me. Had the same problem. You don't have a K&N do you?

Then, after fixing the problem, I decided to go drifting with my friend over at the old Larry Miller I use to work at that shut down. So much fun lol. First time I've been able to drive one of my Supras since 2009...

Fixed it! Dan_Gyoba was right, stuck VSV in the closed position...
Thanks guys. As always, you save the day!

Yeah, same here te72. I was originally told by the PO, "All you need is new spark plugs..." Of course the car was 6 hours away, and I paid him to bring it back here to Boise...
On another note in my quest to resolve the overheating issue, Dan_Gyoba's advice fueled this a search in which I...
Could the heater not turning on and working be in any way responsible for a stuck heater valve? My heater lights up and the vents change from face/legs/defrost, but it never blows any air. Just wondering if this could be related to my overheating issue. Thanks in advance guys.

Yeah, in fact when I got it and put the new one in, the was no thermostat at all in there and it was still overheating.
I just got done taking off the lower radiator hose and pouring water in the top, came out the bottom just fine.
Took the thermostat out and seen that it had been opening...
She had all the coolant she would take. It's not flowing past the radiator cap, just sits there then eventually overflows from the cap if left off. Where is the heater valve and how would I get it free? Thanks in advance.

Another question... I was told by PO that a possible reason for it overheating could be bubbles in the cooling system.
I don't see a bleed valve for the cooling system on this 7M-GE, am I missing it somewhere or is there not one? Also from research it seems as though to get rid of a supposed...
Well, yesterday I took out the water pump, and it appears to be working just fine... So the overheating is coming from somewhere else.
I've already replaced the thermostat, like I said the water pump appears to be working good. The PO said he replaced the radiator and it does look newer...
Started to take off the alternator/belt to change the water pump because the new 88 is overheating, but it got too dark out... I'll finish her up tomorrow and post pics.

Keep in mind that the motion and momentum is turning one way, so when the crank is turning you probably won't notice it with the naked eye.

Lol, thanks. I try to be of help :) If the key needs replaced, it's simple, just stick another one in. If it's not, then the crankshaft needs some machine work on the grooves that hold the key. I'll take pics of my hogged out crank tonight after work.

Exactly, that crankshaft
now needs machine work to hold the key again, and the edge of the key wore out and is rounded down.
The key can be replaced, but the little rectangle section of the crankshaft is what holds it secure in place and mine is worn out. I'll have to take a picture and show...
