so your gonna drive from bc to st johns? and back again? I am all for the love of driving, but thats a lot of km. A LOT.
If my supra was more reliable I would join for the east side of it.
Did this last year. I have a 86.5 car with a 87 harness. the motor is a 92. The only plugs that are different are the thermostat housing sensors. so just use the old housing, or swap out the individual sensors.

any parts or stuff that i should keep an eye out for?
i have used both on the same tranny before and not noticed a difference. but my wiring harness stayed the same (all yellow plug baby!). i think if i were you i would use the one for the 88. check for codes.
also, just out curiosity, did you put the shifter back were its supposed to be...
i believe the wiring is different if the new tranny came from a car with abs. im currently working on solving this. but i lack time. sorry for the late response.
