Welcome to our obsession! First thing you need to do is everything you would do for routine maintence (oil, coolant, plugs etc). Also change the thermostat and check all the belts and hoses. Beyond that, you should also do a compression check and test the coolant for exhaust gasses with a test...
The 3vze 3.0L V6 in my 92 4Runner has cost me more than my Supra for headgasket replacement. I picked up a standard 4Runner gasket set and headbolts for the same price as a Gasket set, HKS MHG and ARP Studs. If I want exhaust headers for the 3vze it is about $500 plus install. Use good parts...
Figure out about how long it takes and and multiply it out by a labor rate. Most shops charge $75-$100 per hour, your hourly cost is about $60 for the engine swap which is a pretty good price. If you are happy eith what you get for doing it and people are happy to pay what you charge then you...
First thing to do is replace the thermostat and burp the cooling system. If it still does it then it probably is a BHG. It is how it started on my Supra several years ago and it just happened on my Cressida. The gasket holds well enough to keep the water in and at the low pressure the cooling...
Yeah, I checked with Toyota already on the 4Runner and it was done in 2000. It looks like the head has some cracks in it as well. There is a crack going between the intake and exhaust valves for each cylinder on the drivers side head. I am still fighting with the exhaust so I have not gotten the...
The thing of it is, I am trying to get the 4Runner running for my wife and I will drive the Cressida so I can do some upgrades to the Supra. It is an N/A and has been my daily driver for the better part of 8 years. It needs some body work and I was going to swap a turbo into it, then maybe drop...
Looks like I now have 2 cars that I have to do the Head Gaskets on :nono: . I recently picked up a 92 4Runner with a bad gasket for 2800 (found an identical one at a dealership for 7000) so I have nearly gotten it torn apart and it has been a pain. This morning, just after my wife and I leave...
I had something similar happen with the TPS in mine but it gave no codes for some reason. Turns out, the TPS was fried and could barely be turned. They spent months trying to figure it out but charged me next to nothing for the diagnostic work when it was all done.
It may not be enough good gas to counter the bad. When mine says a 1/4 tank, it has about 6 gallons in it. If the worst it is is just a fuel pump then it is a steal.
Pull the valvecovers off and check all the cleatances between the cams and valves and replace any shims as necessary. You can also check the cam bearing clearances while you are at it.
Did they resurface the flywheel or replace it? All the clutches I have done did not behave like that, just a little slipping at first. Does it only vibrate when the clutch is engaged or disengaged or both? Also, does it vibrate when you are driving at all?
Next time it is doing it, pull a plug wire and check that you have spark and pull a sparkplug and see if it is wet with fuel. No spark - check the igniter. No fuel - check the fuel system. If the starter turns the engine over every time you try, it is not the starter.
As Jetjock said, check the brake light switch. It is under the dash attached to your brake pedal. When you press the pedal it closes the switch lighting the lights. After that check the relay for the brake lights.
My wife and I recently bought a 1992 Toyota 4Runner. We got it for $2800 but it needs some engine work (no big deal) but it has no owners manual. So I start looking online for one while looking for a TSM for it. Found the TSM for $70 but no owners manual so my wife emails Toyota through their...
I thought there were 2 different racks that were put in the MKIII, depending on the year. One was standard and the other had a spped sensing system or something like that which came on later models. They probably gave you the wrong model rack.
I was a manager for Pizza Hut some time ago when this happened. One of the drivers left his keys and cellphone in his car in the parking lot in front of the restaraunt (we were in a large stripmall). Someone stole his car while he was in the store between deliveries. Police came and took all the...
Sounds like it may be a camshaft oil seal. They are not too difficult to replace but you have to remove the timing components from the head. I don't think oil sealers will help as it is on a moving part. You could do this in an afternoon and minimal $ in parts.
