Get rims you want to drive with everyday, and get something for the back to race with and put them on when need be, The RX7 rims can be had for cheap. We had a good thread on the drag section on SF.

Since you asked, in this case a stock HG would be much more forgiving of any problrms with the block.
I would not install the HKS in that manner myself.
Did you up the boost in the second run? What type of boost controller are you using and what was the target boost number for both runs?

I had that problem once when my starter flaked out on me. I would turn the key, the dash ligts would dim, and the car would not do anything other the make the relay by the pasenger side click.
Then it fixed itself (starter issue) and all has been well since.
