Thanks for the responses! I went for a drive today, and i think i've fixed the problem, well for now at least, spark plugs are at .024, and i used some grease around the spark plugs (it was sitting at the checkout at autozone in what looked like a condom package). So for now i don't have the...
Alright, drove it today, it didn't make any weird popping sounds on startup, i epoxy'd and heat shrinked the coil packs and got the same break up :/ it happened around 3k on my first pull, i also tried feathering the throttle for slower acceleration but still had the breakup, i turned the corner...
Sorry if my original post was confusing, I have NOT ran my car since re gapping the plugs, i didn't realize that that alone could solve the problem, i noticed all the cracks in the packs and figured that was the culprit, oh well, i was out all day with the gf so i didn't find time to check this...
I believe i have the second gen 1jz, based on pics i found online. Also, i the smoke seemed to come from the front turbo mainly, also it didn't smoke after i got home. I always do smell something burning under the engine bay.
So did re gapping help your problem at all? or do you still have the...
Heres a couple of things i've noticed...
After the car sits for a while (more than a day) it has a miss (i think? loud popping sound) for about 5 min.
I've only driven it 3 times since installation, and i continually notice smoke coming from the turbos, from around the heat shield
once...
haha, thats a good idea, yeah also i could wire it to the accessory signal for the stereo, but i think there should be something in the engine bay , i didn't feel like running more wires through the dash :/, i've had enough of that, i think ill find something in the fuse/relay box to use, but...
Because this would be easier.
Where would this thermostat go? I mean i have the factory thermostat, but i heard that that is only for the stock auxilary fans and kicks on at a higher temperature than what i would need, so i figured it could just have them be on when the car is running. That...
So i would like to know what wire i should use as a signal for my electric fans, i'd like to have it run whenever the car is on, just wondering where i should run the signal from, hopefully theres something in the fuse box that i can tap into!
edit:
So i did some looking around on the tsrm...
haha nope, but chrome translates it, i just use it for the diagrams and part #'s i really don't think you need to understand the words to get what you need to know, it has lots of vehicles too, i used it for my rav4 too lol
Alright here goes an update!
Broken hoses
had to order some super heavy duty gates hose, this was a pita to install, mainly because it didn't flex very well, i had to really pry it in there.
Lengthening the harness
New clutch...
alright so i re-tightened all the manifold nuts again, this time using a hammer, and in one case an engine hoist, to tighten all the nuts as tight as i can and it sounded even better, but there was still a lot of sounds going on, there was also a burning smell, after examining my serpentine...
yeah i stumbled across that weird ass russian site a few months back, they have all the exploded views of pretty much the entire car, and all the part numbers, they have the jza70 and the ma70 and a lot of other cars too!
I see a lot of people asking for certain oem 1jz part numbers, I stumbled onto this site while preparing for my swap and it was a great help!
now does everyone else know of this/these sites and don't talk about it? or did no one know that these existed?
Maybe im just late to find out about...
