Having a hard time getting a decent fan setup for my 1jz. I had 2 12" electric fans, until one died yesterday while at a drift event. I noticed some power loss, the stock temp gauge hadn't moved, so I went back to the pits and my laser thermometer read 217* on the waterneck...
I had a...
Still on the stock downpipe? My car used to do the same thing, until I put on a bellmouth 3" downpipe and straight 3" exhaust. The CT wastegate is small, but so is the turbine wheel. So with a free flowing exhaust it will creep to 11-12 psi with no boost controller, but raising it much past that...
Had fun at the drift event until my turbo flange bolts loosened up and the gasket blew out. After than it was lag city and wouldn't spool whatsoever in the tight corners. Going to fix the gasket and swap the 3.91's in favor of 4.30 gears.
hahaha *you're!
The car has been running great. Upped the boost to 12 psi on a completely stock fuel system, including the cressida pump. AFR still deep in the 10's.
Going to take the car to the track for the first time on June 22nd. Drift event at Pat's Acres in Canby, OR. There should be a...
This is a local spot where I learned to drift. Awesome place but very unforgiving. One wrong move and you're off a cliff!

Built my own downpipe. I'm a real beginner at fabrication but I'm really happy with the fitment and how it turned out.
Should have went single from the start. It sounds so good!
Before you use NPR pistons, research them a little more. Many people have had ring lands break. I ignored what I read and used them anyway, now I have a rebuilt 7M with a few thousand miles and a broken ring land.
If it's down to 4-5 psi and getting hot it sounds like the cat is clogged. Any check engine light? If the car is running rich it will overheat the cat and melt the internals. So will retarded timing. I don't see the turbo heat shield in your photo, try to find one.
Funny you guys mention that, it's a pet peeve of mine when people go on and on about how they are going to build a car and it ends up just sitting there for years and years. When I start a project I try to give it all my attention and do it right.
I'm Kinda bummed because I'm missing a drift...
Putting a single on my 1JZ and was wondering if most would recommend reusing the stock MLS exhaust manifold gaskets with the single manifold or using the metal/fiber gaskets that come with the manifold?
A few 7M specifics, the timing cover has to be on while getting the block decked as the head seals across both surfaces. Also, the timing tensioner has to be properly torqued down during cylinder boring because it slightly distorts the #1 cylinder bore. The factory crank and rods are forged...
