    Coolant leaking, heater bypass?

If you are talking about the hose that goes from the back of the block to the firewall outlet. A couple of pointers. 1. Cheaper to get a generic 90º elbow hose with the right lengths than from Toyota 2. Sometimes it is just a split at the hose end near the clamp. You might be able to get away...

    Code 51 Understanding

    Q. "Does a neutral start switch issue (causing a code 51 reading) affect the ECU's management of the engine? " A. "Without going into detail it depends on the cause but all involve idle. " So you seem to be saying that there are code 51 readings CAUSED by neutral start switch issues that CAN...

    Code 51 Understanding

Had already read that. Good info but don't see that it answers the question. It only goes into the issues caused by a TPS issue creating the code 51 and not what the code 51 may have triggered the ECU to do.

    Code 51 Understanding

7mgte in my 85 automatic. Does a code 51 cause any ECU engine management changes? I am guessing that it doesn’t because it signals 3 unrelated causes. I am getting a code 51 and the TPS was OK a few months ago. AC is off. But I do have a neutral start issue occasionally (over 1yr or...

    Codes 21 & 42 fixed ???

Rechecked for codes after some miles. Only the 51 shows. Sounds like the 42 was some sort of transient issue and it has never shown in the past. Might I assume that if it is not showing, there is no immediate issue? And does the 42 affect the driveability managed by the ECU or is it just a...

    Codes 21 & 42 fixed ???

On my pre 89 harness, 7mgte MK2 auto, I have had a continuing code 51 and an occasional neutral start issue where I would have to shift it to neutral or so in order to start. But the codes 21 & 42 (along with the 51) showed up after MPG went to 13-15 mpg from 19-20 mpg on 2 tankfulls...

    Hard start/Funny idle - 7mgte ISC problem?

Further Update Installed a HAC sensor (pre 89 harness). Car has had no HAC sensor since the 7mgte conversion. Put one in and instantly got 1-2 points of vacuum at idle and cruising. I also went from 4.10 rear to 3.73. No other changes, adjustments, or maintenance. Seems closer to what the car...

    Hard start/Funny idle - 7mgte ISC problem?

Got a HAC Sensor, installed it and makes a very noticeable difference. Immediately got 1-2 inches of vacuum at idle and light throttle cruising as well as sharper throttle response. How did the confusion come about? Strange change in Diagnostic Codes? The swap was done by a very knowledgeable...

    Hard start/Funny idle - 7mgte ISC problem?

The HAC is a high altitude compensation sensor that is a separate from 87-88 ECUs but integrated on 89 and later. It apparently modifies the injection for the altitude. see the good writeup inside this pdf. http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h24.pdf It doesn't describe what the full path from an...

    Hard start/Funny idle - 7mgte ISC problem?

The cynus TSRM shows 32 w/asterisk referring to the 7mge http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=FI&P=27 but where does it link the 32 to the HAC sensor which is shown as a 35 w/asterisk referring to 7mgte? And what is the HAC sensor?

    Hard start/Funny idle - 7mgte ISC problem?

Typo?? think you mean code 52 "Code 51 is the knock sensors...usually a wiring issue. With that code present, the ECU retards timing quite a bit and the car runs like crap." The TSRM says 32 is the AFM. What is the HAC sensor? "Code 32 is the HAC sensor...it in the ECU on '89+...

    Hard start/Funny idle - 7mgte ISC problem?

Hard start/Funny idle - 7mgte ISC problem? Is this an ISC problem? Maybe it isn't closing fully? or?? Any other ideas? Where do I start looking? Out of nowhere, my 7mgte began to start funny. I would have to work the throttle to get it to start and then continue to work the pedal to...

    Throttle body not closing

If the throttle is not being held open by the throttle stop screw or the Dashpot (which slows the throttle closing against the throttle stop screw) then it may be crud that is accumulating on the throttle plate itself and keeping it from fully closing .

    7MGTE strange A/C symptom

7MGTE strange A/C symptom What's going on? Did an LV - LA run with the A/C running on recirc air. Outbound cruise 3500 rpm. Late in the run the seemingly cold air would not cool the interior. The upper interior air became very warm. I relieved it only be opening the windows. On the return...

    7mgte CPS connector/wires

Update: Everything was OK till about a month ago when I had 2 instances of no-start, adjust CPS wire then OK. I sprayed the connector with electronic cleaner and it worked fine for several weeks then 4 times and a complete non-start in my garage. Found that the black wire on the harness side was...
