Definitely wash it thoroughly before considering any polish. Next step is to clay bar the crap out of it. This removes all the exhaust/dirt/tar particles that soap doesn't get rid of. Once it's perfectly clean, dry it off to make sure you don't leave any water marks. When a car is this clean...

when no vacuum is applied, you shouldn't be able to blow through the bpv. Once vac is applied to the top, air should flow freely.

surprisingly well actually. I put in front and rear sway bars as well, so that helped a ton even before the suspension upgrade. The thing is on rails...low low rails ;)
