I would also include the Lisle 36050 Valve Keeper Tool.
With this thing all you have to do is lean on the valve spring and it will remove/install the keepers. Cuts time working with valves to a minimum.
Wondering if anyone could help me out with a base timing map for the 7MGE.
I am currently tuning a Megasquirt 3 on my '87 Supra and need to figure out the starting points for the timing map. I managed to find that stock it runs about 12* at idle and have been able to adjust at least my idle...
Not to sound like a prick but the main reason is because I can. Some other reasons would be that is what I had started with to work on, and also the systems I have been addressing are bottle necks in this old-school Toyota tech. I've also been using it for experience and experimentation. This...
If you want a short throw shifter, all you need to do is remove the large extender. It was glued on in my car and with some of the strongest glue I've encountered. Heat from a small torch should speed up removing it but only if you pull the shifter first and are careful not to scorch anything...
Here are some pics of the rest being assembled over the last few days.
The last pic is where it sits at the moment. I'll be firing it up for the first time very soon here. Hope all goes well, I've been triple checking every little thing.
The vacuum and wiring on this car is now much easier...
I had to add the wiring for the coils. I used 16 aug. wire and some Delphi DIY connectors. I also had to install a 1 uF capacitor in the harness for each coil. This was to help the coils get a jump on charging and also some noise filtering.
I also installed and wired up a second resistor pack...
I went through every inch of my engine harness. Some got removed, some changed or rerouted, and some got added. This took me a couple weeks of studying the schematics and tracing wires.
Once everything was checking out, I then gave it some fresh tape and loom.
Got the valve covers back on and started digging into the harness. The clump of wires are for all the stuff I removed and take out.
The bracket I made (pic 3) in order to mount six LS2 coils on the firewall (pic 4).
The last one is showing the header installed. This is a Pace Setter 6-2-1...
I also painted the valve covers to match the block. I did this because it was a very common thing to do with classic hot rods.
The last three are of a custom plug I made to block off the heater port on the back of the head. I don't drive the car in cold weather and the blower inside just...
I decided to paint the lower and upper timing covers. I also used a piece of cut to fit mirror for the lettering background and some vinyl stick on letters.
Hopefully they will stick, if not then I will need to come up with a plan B. At least it looks good for now. :icon_bigg
Pic 1 is the tool I mentioned earlier that was used for power washing the cylinder head.
2 & 3 are of the igniter/ignition coil and of the cruise control. Both systems were removed from this build.
Pic 4 is a box full of extra parts left over. I know I'm suppose to end up with extra parts...
I also did an overhaul on the head. I found out that it was actually painted silver (???). Ok, it is what it is, so I used some Aircraft stripper to get the paint off. I then used lots of degreaser sprayed through an engine washing nozzle that hooks up to an air compressor. It was fairly...
I'm hoping the bearing will work for now. It was experimental from the start so only driving it will tell. If I end up having to get an OEM one then I will nix the two piece all together and get a one piece racing drive shaft.
I removed the ACIS system so I no longer needed the canister and VSV for it. I also removed the EVAP canister and ABS from the car.
The 4th pic is what the brake fluid looked like after draining some out of the car. Brake fluid is made to change color according to water contamination. I'm...
