Awesome, good to know-I’m planning on just rebuilding the diff and clutches and throwing a stiffer spring in there. ~100 ft lbs breakaway

Okay, figured as much. Yeah I knew about the machine work I just read some posts where people found the 2jz cams provided better power across the rev range and smoother idle compared to 264 cams.

Hey just been perusing the forum and found info on 2j cams in a 1j and now I want to do the mod. I found a set of 2j vvti cams on eBay cheap problem is I haven’t found info on if vvti cams will fit in there and if they have the same effect that non vvti cams will when swapped into a 1j. I’m not...
I am planning eventually to run mainly track, and do some spirited drag racing occasionally. So for the most part no I do not want to force it to be locked up all the time, just mainly to help launches, but I do need it to corner well still (I don’t mind a little oversteer however actually...
Thanks for the input I appreciate it. I’ll get around to rebuilding it someday lol I’ve setup quite a few diffs so not too terrible at it haha. So I guess it seems like a waste then huh? At 95 lb ft breakaway how well does the diff hookup both axleshafts? Also would the diff/clutch packs hold...
Hi everyone just been throwing the idea around of swapping an 8.8 IRS Differential in the back of my mk3. Ive seen kits for sc300s/mk4’s. I have a 4.30 open diff in the Supra now and with the 1j that’s only pushing 310 at the wheels I cannot hookup, tires and wheels are coming first but I gotta...
Or worse and get gear deflection and shred the ring and pinion... that would be no good! Also, I want the posi to grab good but not chatter. So would shimming it to a breakaway of 100 ft lbs be good, and put that heavier spring from weir in and then add a few oz of friction modifier?

Yeah, I figured that out pretty quickly.. at any rate I’d be more inclined to get OEM Toyota seals, they aren’t too bad. Bearings are like $50 a piece! Oh well, I only paid $100 for the diff so I’m not out too much! Could probably reuse the bearings but they got a little pitting on them so...
Yeah I totally agree with you guys, I prefer to use thicker shims in any diff rebuild I do. Too bad the guy I bought it from lost the shims, I asked what the deal was with the carrier being so sloppy and where the shims were and his reply was great, “oh the axle stubs need to be hammered in all...
Cool, I appreciate it. Just curious do you know the outside and inside diameter of the shims? I was thinking maybe I could find a shim kit for another diff that might work, something a little more common

Picked up a used 3.90 lsd diff for cheap but it is missing the carrier shims for some reason.. want to do a full rebuild on it and do a crush sleeve eliminator. Anyways I’m having a real tough time finding shims for this diff and now I’m seeing pics of how the mk4 diff is shimmed so don’t know...
Wow quick reply lol. And i figured as much, i thought they were the same length and all that as far as input to output shaft. Just different gearing and shifter positions. W58s are hard to come by around here for some reason
I got an r154 sitting in the garage but i gotta save up for the clutch...
