well, ill start off with when i bought this car, i didnt know too much about it and what i was getting into but has been a great experience for me.

i started off looking for a cheap car with good gas mileage on craigslist when i stumbled upon a car i couldn't go without.
it looked like a nice 2door sports car that had some motor to back it up.

two days later, in april this year, i went to Cheney to pick up this awesome car.
a few things i had to fix before i drove it were the brakes, which were locked and filled with petroleum (said the guy i bought it from), and a clutch. i threw in an Aisin HD r154 clutch.

i drove the car to work maybe 3 times when i came home one day getting on it a little. tons of white smoke everywhere and had no power. there goes the HG :icon_evil

so let the building begin, thanks to my dad and CajunKenny for helping me along the way
i now have the motor rebuilt and installed in the car, but ill post some pictures on the way it got there.

between my toyota crawler and supra, they both keep me really busy

once the motor was disassembled i sent it off the the machine shop to get some work done.

cylinders honed, 3angle valve job, block/timing cover decked, head resurfaced, crank polished and everything cleaned. looks nice and fresh..
while it was there i had them throw in small block v8 chevy double valve springs (just the inner spring i think it was)

broke the motor in and ran like a top with the stock fuel system and turbo

Recently installed a wally 255 fuel pump and drilled out the j tube.
Lexus AFM and RC 550cc injectors are installed. having a fuel pressure issue but will be on the road in no time.

next on the list is a JT62 turbo, have Maft pro just need to install it, and put the 89+ tail lights on. for some reason the PO had pre 89 tails and mirrors on?

I was waiting for someone to mention that.
It looks like he might have taken the pic prior to installing the cap? I hope?

When I first bought the car I figured I would just daily drive it and keep it close tp stock HP.
But now every time I hear the turbo spool I think a few more HP wouldnt hurt :icon_bigg

I would say around the 400-450hp range with the turbo I'm picking up in a few months from a friend

I'm not 100% on those numbers. Hopefully they are a little bigger than I think they are.

This is my first motor rebuild and has been a good learning experience for me,
Why might tighter clearances not allow for higher horsepower?
