I've been requested to start a build thread, so here goes...

First off, The car that is being Frankenstiened/ Modded/ Upgraded/ Engine swapped/ Whatever, began life as an '88 N/A Gloss Black supra with some interesting mods which I picked up in October of '08.

The interesting mods I found on said Sup were the usual intake and exhaust upgrades (Header, Intake blah blah blah) and then, one day whilst changing cam seals, I discovered AEM adjustable cam gears, and later a bunch of local guys and I decided it might have cams. The N/A was a j-spec (yeah.. big whoop I know) but for whatever was done to it, pulled fairly well.

And then I got stupid.

Two years later finds my Supra on jack stands with the engine being replaced for a 7MGTE.. amongst everything else I plan on doing, what follows is the B.S. and shinnanigans I'm going to put my self through in an effort to try to not blow this 7m up.

Before I get started on all the Build stuffs, HUGE thanks goes to 92nsx, emilio, Leecheeter, Toyotanos, and waaay more people than I could try to list in any sort of order (and there is no order.. however I owe 92nsx many and many a beer)

So.. here goes a build thread. I apologize for shitty picture quality, most of these pics were taken with a cell phone.:3d_frown:

Well, While I'm trying to figure out this issue with my card reader.. Here's some Pics of the car BEFORE I went all swap happy.
Note: The 18" Konings are gone and have been replaced with 16" ARs

When I first the car, it also came with an MSD Box all MSD'd in there.. yeah... I got rid of it, Car ran better with out it.

Here's the conglomeration of wires and craziness too. Enjoy.

Ok, so now that card reader issues are as solved as they're gonna be -And now that I have "borrowed" internets- here are pics of the pulled motor after 4 hours of degreasing and prior to taking everything apart. Notice the oh-so-stylish Superjoke filter!!! AWESOME!

I'm going to try to keep from skipping as much as possible, but after several months of the engine sitting on a stand at home, we FINALLY took the head off and found a very, very, very sad looking headgasket, upon removal of said headgasket, Cross blow was discovered between cyl 5 and 6.
After scraping the old material off, We found some pitting also between cylinders 5 and 6 on the fire ring and pitting on the back side of 6. I didn't get pics of the pits, but for your viewing pleasure..... B.....H......G!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot to mention that all that was found AFTER replacing the Main bearings and when Rod bearings were about to be done. The pitting made me a sad panda. So... screw it! Head AND block are off to the machine shop. Here's what happens when you request a 20 finish at the St.Cloud Auto Value machine shop...$152.38 later... (and seriously.. that's all it cost me. The phone camera doesn't do justice)

More Later. Also forgetting to mention, So far the build is focusing on reliability (HA!) and fun. I'm shooting for about 300whp and not having to fix the car every two weeks. As I progress putting things up, I will try to be as detailed as possible as well as give any after market part numbers I used ( I work at a Parts City in Clearwater MN)
Also, Toyotanos, if I forget anything that you were there for, please chime in.

Drew, you're going to love your car when its done. 350whp feels ridiculous right now and that's with a big laggy turbo. You run a 57 trim and you'll be more streetable than I am!

I also have a name- its Steve...you should know that. lolerskates and roflcopters!

I'm sorry STEVE, from now on I will refer to Toyotanos as STEVE. I hope STEVE isn't offended by the lack of STEVEness in the STEVEless post. I apologize.

Thank you STEVE. I'm glad you approve STEVE lolerskates and roflcopters and such

Anyway.. more pics and such..
Before putting the head back on, it was time to RE-install main and rod bearings. The Sealed Power numbers will be posted as soon as I find the paper work on them. All tolerances were in spec (didn't get pics of that) so in went the crank, Reconditioned Rods with ARP rod bolts (thanks Emilio!!!) and all bearings

Yeah... I re-used my old pistons and Rings and such. I'm bad person I know:nono: but I am doing this build spending money where I can..
Such as when it was head gasket time!! I bought some ARP head studs, and Rob (92nsx) fronted me the cash to pick up an oh-so-sexy 2mm HK$ Stopper MHG when we were at Supra Sport for a meet on may 16th. So.. on with MHG install pics!

Oh.. Here are your cam seal part numbers for a 7m 1987 National
Oil Pump drive seal is 1953 National
Will post Front timing soon.
Be careful when installing the Oil Pump drive seal.. or you might roll it. Like this:3d_frown:

I then used a new seal that came with my Fel-Pro timing set.. I only bought the set for the Front Crank seal and for a back up Oil pump drive seal. As I said before, will post PNs soon

As promised, here are some aftermarket part numbers for anyone who may want them:
ss72656-1 Fel-Pro Viton Valve stem seals

TCS45732 Fel-Pro Timing cover set. This includes front crank seal and oil pump drive seal. Just toss the fiber timing cover gaskets. Oddly enough this set comes with National seals and costs about the same as buying JUST the National front crank seal.

228010 National Rear main seal

Tonight Mr. Steve came on up and we installed my valve stem seals, Unfortunately we discovered pretty much all the valves on the intake side to be leaking :( upon further inspection and diagnosis, we determined the leak to be caused by carbon build up. This is a 99% sure diagnosis based on the amount of carbon we found in the intake ports as well as looking at the valves through the ports.

Kicking my self for forgetting to do a valve job. Hopefully diagnosis is correct, or else I'm going to have some 5m style valve leak issues :(

Will post pics soon

I like how this is coming alotng, but for only 300 HP...350HP at the most, isnt a 2.0mm Stopper a little much? That thick of a HG wont throw off ur compresstion that much?

He's not dropping the compression by much, Drew had the block and head machined. By doing so you have to go with a slightly thicker HG plus he really wanted a stopper. HKS only makes 1.2, 2, 3mm units so the choice was obvious.

Also, he says 350 now, but when we get Sean (funky_monkey58), Dan (leecheater), Rob (92nsx), and myself (duh) all running 500whp, Drew will want to be able to spin up his LIPP BOSS a bit-lol

Steve is right, the block and head both had 7.5 thousandths milled off. Also rocking a stopper feels like the only way to go.. again shooting for reliability.
Now as far as the 500whp club here in central MN... I'm fine being slower.. I'll just make sure to have plenty of coolant and stop leak in my hatch while I'm following behind you guys. I'll be the chase/support sup LOL
