Well, its about time i started one of these threads guys. Theres a lot of background to this car that i wont go into on this thread, but the short version is - i ended up being sold a complete lemon, and unfortunately the amount of good condition Turbo Manuals in the UK is almost dried up now - most having succumbed to rotten rear inner arches (thanks to the salt we use on the roads here in winter time).

So, i've decided to strip and rebuild the damn thing. This may not be as good as Stuey's JZA70 GT Limited build, but i'd like to do as much as i can along the lines of; remove everything. Clean Everything. If it looks old, refurbish or replace it. Refit with new parts, and lots of shiny stuff :)

Currently, theres a MASS of welding that needs to be done on the rear arches - i'll take some scary pictures for you all to see, as a warning to check them and keep them dry!

The engine itself is mechanically sound, with good oil pressure, and no signs of BHG (yet), but i'm going to strip it down, and rebuild with ARP's and a new stock HG. Not going to go for a MHG as the machining costs here are off the wall.

Thee engine harness needs a lot of work doing to it - thankfully i'm a dab hand with a soldering iron!

I'll be swapping out the stock coilpacks for the IS300 COP mod of TooKwik4U fame - and swapping over to N/A cam covers.

I have a Lexus LS400 AFM and a set of RC550's waiting to go on, a Turbosmart AFPR (although still in need of the right lines to fit the bastard thing) and an FSE fuel pump (not the walbro i requested, but w/e). I will however need a SAFC Neo or a GReddy Emanage for fuel trim.

Turbocharger? Thats currently a stock, although freshly rebuilt CT26 with an adjustable actuator. I'm going to be swapping that out for a Fensport Stage 1 Hybrid (think 50 to 54 trim), running 12psi.

I'm not looking for mad power - just a sleeper, really.

Gearbox is the usual R154, but it's going to be fitted with a Helix Stage 1 4-puck cerametallic clutch. Mmmm. Evil.

Suspension setup consists of brand new HSD Coilovers, with a 20mm drop all round, although i'll still need them to be properly setup at a suspension tuning place - have them all corner-weighted.

Brakes are the usual shite affair - but, i'm looking to sourcing previa twin piston calipers for the moment (for more even pad wear), until such time as i can go for a wilwood kit from ARZ. I was planning on going for the Mustang Cobra BBK from Doward, but given the impossibility of sourcing calipers, discs and pads in the UK - the ARZ kit is the better option, eventually.

Bodywork...well, as i said, the inner rear arches require at least 6 hours of TIG welding, which is going to kill my wallet even further - but the rest of the bodywork is physically fine - however, the rear hatch has no lacquer on it at all, and the top of the car may end up turning pink, along with the nosecone, so eventually, i'll be needing to break out the paint booth and the sandblaster...

The trim is all in good condition, but could do with some cleaning and re-clipping on the doors (it wobbles a lot when you close the door).

Carpet in the boot...well...its in okay condition, but it doesn't go up the seat backs - and looks shit, so i'm going to have to figure that one out.

Exhaust will eventually be my HKS LET-16 (same as NickM), as thats on my old red supra thats currently stuck in limbo.

Wheels are the hard to find Mk3 5-spokes, they'll be refurbished though, so don't worry :)

As i said earlier, i'm going for a factory stock look on the interior, and exterior, so that a) cops won't pull me over b) i can embarrass people in M3's and c) for something slightly different...too many people mod the exterior, when in my opinion, its fine as it is. The most i'll do, would be USDM/JDM rear lights, with the foglamp mod.

Oh, and stereo? Just a single DIN CD Headunit with some Infinity/Kappa 10cm (4") speakers all round, and OFC cable. No bassbins, no amps, just understated GT car.

What d'yall think?

I have three in my command...two red, and one blue. However one of the red ones is missing. I know it exists, i just don't know where...

I'll get pics of the red one that this build is all about, up in a few minutes. I want to have a shower, get dressed, and get some beer in me first.

Right - i've showered, dressed myself, and soaked up a beer or three. Breakfast of champions. Hooah.

Notice the rear bumper - hanging from...well....nothing! It's being held on by one bolt and a lot of faith! :D

Woot! Managing to order this lot today through someone who gets a 12% Discount at their dealership - effectively reducing the VAT to just 3%! :D

Things are looking up in the welding department too - this weekend looks to be set for an attack of the TIG Welder :)

Oy....yesterday was stress. Just pure fucking stress.

Got to reading, and the first thing tackled, was the rear hatch hinges. Surprisingly quick work - only an hour to get them replaced and all aligned. However, when we stripped the trunk out to get to the rear inner arches...we found...well, you can see for yourself in the pictures. Rust. Lots of it. I was about ready to cry, it was that bad. But i'm persisting.

I'm british, and therefore shall maintain a stiff upper lip! :D

No actual welding work took place, as there was far too much of it to do and i've needed to rebudget again for cost of materials. Going to go back there tomorrow - now that we've got a better idea of what the situation is.

So, today, i went to Halfords of all places, and got;

Hammerite Aerosol Can (Black, Hammered Finish)
Hammerite Underseal (Big tin - for the sills)
Toyota 3E5 Aerosol Can (Yes, they sell it here!)
Clearcoat Aerosol Can
Ford Solar Gold Aerosol Can (For the N/A Cam Cover repaint)
Halfords Grey Primer
U*Pol Zinc Weld-Thru Primer (For the Bodywork Welding)
Set of Ratchet Spanners (10mm to 19mm)
Python Grip's
Mole Grip's
Sanding Disc for the Angle Grinder (40 grit - for the sills)
14mm 3/8" Hex Socket for the Gallery Plugs
10mm 3/8" Hex Socket for the Stock Headbolts

I also managed to get the head and the block into the trunk of the Supra. The block...well it was supposed to go in with an engine crane....but unfortunately, the nylon rope kinda...snapped. The block dropped 3 feet or so, with half of it smashing through the pallet, and the other end bouncing onto a tiled pavement. Thankfully, i think, the block is okay, thanks to the block having some ancillaries on it still, which bore the brunt of the pavement hit.

It's still got to go to SERDI in Uxbridge to be checked and resurfaced - so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's still good, otherwise i'm out another £300. Finding a 7M block here is pretty hard.

Anyway - enough rambling - pictures. Look at them.

Today:

STILL no actual welding took place, mostly we were concentrating on weld prep, and sorting out the exhaust downpipe. Thanks to the whole engine gasket sets, i had the correct sealing rings, although had to re-use the turbo to downpipe gasket...GRR. Have to get myself a new set of Turbo gaskets, although not from Toyota - £93 + VAT for 5 tiny gaskets! As opposed to £15 quid off eBay!

Anyway - after having wire wheeled the rust, and zinc primering them - they look a lot less scary - so what we're going to do, is plate them in one continuous section with thinner steal, rather than thick steel patch panels. I don't care that it'll look a bit untidy - as the welds live behind all the boot plastics. As long as its well sealed and going to hold!

The spare engine block has also been stripped. The rods are okay, but the pistons have reached the point where they're about as much use as an ashtray - too much wear on the skirts. Block will be needing a 40 thou overbore, hone, and a new set of pistons. I'm leaving it up to the machine shop to determine how much needs to come off the block surface, although i'm hoping for a max of 10 thou. The crank is in good condition, just needs polishing - no scoring at all - something i'm surprised about, even the thrust washers were almost barely worn.

Choice now, is between a range of Forged pistons (CP, Wiseco, Probe, JE etc). I'm also going to get a set of Forged rods while i'm at it - no point in skimping - i might as well just go balls to the wall on it and be done with the internals :)

Machine work begins on Wednesday morning, and hopefully, i'll have it back by the end of the week, saturday at the latest - SERDI are gods :D

Same day? Welding ACTUALLY starts...i think. ;)
