    Cold start tapping/knocking...uh oh....

    inside that main pulley there is a bolt. you can stick your fingers in there and see if you feel it and you can tell if it's loose. that main pulley should not be wobbling . if it's wobbling it would suggest it's loose , not good and that will make an engine knock sound when you go to start it...

    i'm assuming you are open to suggestions . here is mine loose main pulley bolt before you start the engine put your hand on the alternator pulley and give it a twist to see if it moves to the left or the right . you should not be able to move it..

    i was told that using the lapping tool was a waste of time too. using a lapping tool is not a waste of time for those of us without a complete garage at our finger tips the lapping tool works well i did have the head surfaced but still lapped the head and did all the block work by hand...
