    7MGTE Rebuild

Hi Guys, I'm located in Seacoast NH (but happy to drive elsewhere in New England if need be) and I'm looking for a reputable engine shop to rebuild my 7MGTE. Does anybody know of a machine shop that has done a 7M with a success story? Thanks!

I looked at 10 Supra's before I found THIS ONE ---> Build Up

Block did go to machine shop. I just had them deck it. Took the clean bore as a sign the were straight. Leading to the response of the next question...I didn't overbore and really regret it. That compression really sounds low? I thought it was right in spec but don't recall acceptable range...

Updates are SO overdue here. I'll make a post to kickstart a habit of getting updates/pics/vids. My poor little monster has been off the road for 3mo now with the transmission removed. I was driving the car very carefully one Saturday when it decided to start popping out of first gear. Second...

I can't believe how neglected my forum updates have gone, but I will sum up where I stand in the supra world. I am now running and tuned at 15psi on a HKS Sport Turbo. Walbro 255, 560cc injectors, Lex, and AFPR. It's a total blast! I will get some pics and vids up in the near future.

Smoke AFTER decel, good compression, new turbo, 2000mi since rebuild

Mobil clean 5000 conventional 10w-30. for 500 miles. changed again with same oil around 1500mi. now at around 2500mi and running mobil1 full syn 10w-30. and, Nick, I see about 24in-hg on decel.

So, calling all wishful thinkers... Is it possible my compression rings will seat better and then result in my oil rings seating the cyl better? Or is that as wishful as a spun bearing re-polishing itself?

Yup, and it was dry as I'd expect after turbo rebuild. I guess my oil rings are not seating well on cyl, oil is getting past them, and then burning the first time my throttle is cracked. This might be the first time I wish we didn't have piston skirt oil jets on the turbo blocks.

Smoke AFTER decel, good compression, new turbo, 2000mi since rebuild

I checked hoses and they are dry. Yes, I have the original PCV system. Yes, I understand the vacuum issue under off-throttle decel and have from the start. No, cylinders didn't appear to have a taper (and the car never did this on the original bottom end - recall, I only rebuilt because the...

i DID hone. I use a 400grit stone hone. It was just enough to de-glaze.

Smoke AFTER decel, good compression, new turbo, 2000mi since rebuild

Which method? Nothing too special on breakin. Everyone has an opinion on that and opinions are like a$$holes. I did lots of "non-constant RPM" driving. Didn't rev too high for 1000mi or so. Oil changed at 500mi, then 1500mi. Cyl's still had original crosshatch with no scarring at all. Ring gaps...

Smoke AFTER decel, good compression, new turbo, 2000mi since rebuild

The turbo was rebuilt through Aaron TWICE. I thought it was the turbo and sent it back. If I had a spare turbo, i'd try it. I do, however, trust the rebuilt as Aaron has a real solid reputation and is a great guy to work with.

Smoke AFTER decel, good compression, new turbo, 2000mi since rebuild

I have about 2000 miles on my stock rebuilt 7M. My motor had 95K on it and ran excellent. I'm almost sad I touched it, but I wanted to do a MHG and that involved surfacing my block, so while it was out I did new NPR pistons, rings, and all new bearings (rod and crank). I still had a nice cross...

Won't idle well when warm, but with weird symptoms

Yea, I get a kick out of those answers... It means it learned the wrong value and resetting to "default" makes it know the right value. If it did the opposite (low after reset, learns to idle), I would agree it means that there could be various things wrong and the ECU is learning to correct...

Won't idle well when warm, but with weird symptoms

And to add to the mystery, I unhooked the battery and let it sit for a bit and then hooked it back up. Started the car up and drove 60 miles today. Idle was perfect at first and now drops to about 500-550RPM. Re-setting the battery reset the issue. wtf?

Won't idle well when warm, but with weird symptoms

Checked codes and it has none. After some more driving, the idle dips so low that it stalls now. The CPS has not moved and the idle has now slowly crept from being the proper 650RPM (after setting base timing) to 400RPM when I push the clutch in. It was a gradual decrease in idle speed over...
