does anyone know where to find or how to do a wiring harness swap? im going from a 87 n/a auto dash harness to a 90 turbo, 5 speed harness. i have the engine harness off the 90 t already through the fire wall and i have the 90 ecu. my problem is the few connectors in the 90 harness that wont fit in the 87 harness. i think my only alternative is to swap the dash harness from the 90 t into the 87 shell. any help would be greatly appreciated seeing is how my build will be done when the wiring gets right and i fire the motor. thanks for the help and please try to keep the flaming to a minimum.

the body harnesses SHOULD be the same. the only difference will be for a few connections around the tstat housing and thats it. maybe the plug for the backup liights also. but thats it. simple.

Nope... done this a few times. The body harnesses are different... I would recommend swapping the front body harness and dash harness off of the same car, but you may also need the door harnesses, since there's a definite different in all the wiring between pre-89 and 89+.

So, long story short, just make the engine harness connection changes, so that you don't have to go thru all that. The temp sensors and maybe a couple of other minor things may be different. Either solder the old connectors onto the new wires, or swap the sensors... Easiest, less risky thing to do... Good luck.

Just pin the 89 harness for the 87 body plugs.. it will take a little time but wont be bad

87 turbo ecu is better imo.. 6700 rev limit vs 6400..

hmmm...how would you pin the 89 harness for the 87. im doing the same the thing myself. The problem ive been having is that the lights stay on even with the ignition off. does anyone know wich wires go where? No im not trying thread jack.

Hmmm..... I'll need more clarity. Do you mean that after an engine harness swap, that's what's happened?

I could only see that happening if you chenged the front body harness, or did something with the dash harness.. maybe even if you replaced the headlight/wiper controls with oe from a different year...

Also, I have a similar problem with my headlights staying on with the ignition on... everyone that's has similar issues have told me it was resolved when they replaced those controls.

I've seen the problem too, generally with a '87-88 motor/ecu/harness in 89+ car. Replacing the headlight controls did not solve the problem in these cases. The problem exists with the difference in pinout for a couple of the body harness connectors as was mentioned earlier. I have not had a chance to test this yet, but I think disconnecting the ecu input from the headlight relay will cause them to work normally again.

you may still hear her run this weekend if you and i can figure out this wiring shit. we may just have to cut and splicw obw connector. all of the body harness is still hooked in. just the few connectors on the engine harness need to be figured out.

I swaped my 87 turbo engine into the 89 body. Harness and all sensors, does anyone know which wires need to be spliced for this swap to completly work? Does anyone have an 89 and a 86-88 pinout diagram.

It should still crank. Just take your taillight fuse box out before it blows (trust me, since this wiring has got me beat I have gone through two of them). I can drive it during the day, but with no taillights I may have a bit of a prblem at night. Keep in mind the ecu plugs are different form the body....

hey can i use an auto engine/harness from an 87 N/a for a 88 5speed, or do i have to swap?

I've read a few tranny swap threads, and no one has ever stated that you need to swap the harness. You will have to do some wiring with the neutral start though im not sure what though. Try a search to find out.

Sorry so long of a wait. The nuetral start has been removed the person i bought the car from had it removed. I was just going to strip the block from the manual(blown) and put all the proformance parts on the auto block(not blown).
