I have an 89 with pre89 mounts (square). So I believe the chassis wiring is the same as pre89 so the schematic below may or may not be entirely accurate.
I am rewiring the fog lights to turn on with the dash lights (w/o the headlights on) but so the button still functions. I have a 1988 TSRM so i've been using that schematic. According to it the R-B (red/black) wire shown from the headlights below actually goes straight to the switch, then the R-G (red/green) wire supplys the power to turn the fog light relay on and off.
So basically just move the switch before the relay in the schematic below.
So what i did was tap into the RB wire from the headlights with the 12v wire from the Rheostat. I did this before on my 88 w/o any problems HOWEVER i believe I tapped into the R-G wire after the switch.
What I'm running into is first i blew the taillight fuse. Maybe that was coincidence, maybe not, i didn't take a chance so i snipped the R-B wire FROM the headlights (thinking that may be the issue) and kept the 12v supply from the rheostat to the foglight switch. That worked however only if the headlights are NOT on. Once they are turned on, power switches off from the foglights. I assume this is b/c i snipped the RB wire from the headlights but why? I'm still supplying the relay with 12v from the rheostat? Am I not?
Again, i did this successfully on my 88 just tapped near the relay. Didn't think tapping before the switch would be an issue. I don't understand why.
