Wierd issue

Ok I have a 7M GTE powered 90 automatic with some basic mods, I run 10psi and rarely actually push that much since I usually don't get over 4 to 5 driving normally. New engine in 2003 before I knew anything about the MK3's, my knowledge was all MK4 oriented. As far as i know stock HG but supposedly torqued to updated torque settings.

I checked for smoke and smell out of the exhaust and I got nothing, no milky look on the dipstick or oil filler cap, I have water fall sound only when its cold weather on cold start, so I am thinking I need a burp. Now here is the wierd issue I need help with.

My coolant light came on, although the resovoir was half full and the radiator was full too. I added a lil and it went off but it wasn't drastically low in the resvoir. Well tonight it did the same BS when I started it the light was on, however this time the resovoir was still full as a matter of fact it had not lost any fo what I put in before, 3/4 full. So I got to looking and noticed the lil plug that goes to the thermostat on the passenger side near the top, small lil wire that clips on, was loose almost all the way off. Now I hooked it up tight and as soon as I did the light went off.

My question is does this wire do anything with the low coolant light? if not what is causing this issue? Thanks I'd appreciate any help here guys.

Oh almost left this out, the car has not overheated at all it stays aboyt 1/16 of an inch below the half mark even in our 90 degree humidity in MO. I have dual electric fans instead of the factory fan too. But it HAS NOT overheated and doesn't show any of the other BHG syptoms I listed, I'm hoping it's not since I am F'ed in the A if it is, lol. I am thinking this wire has something to do with it.

ADDITIONAL INFO: the connector that was loose was grey in color and was not a snap or screw on affair it simply slides over a tab of metal on the thermostate, towards the top portion and on the passenger side, wire color I am not sure on but the connector is grey.

Your Birdcage light:
1) Drain the jug
2) Remove the jug
3) Use some hot water and slosh around in the jug to clean the crap out of it. If you have to use some sort of water based degreaser.
4) Install jug and refill.
5) have a beer!

happened to me also..i cleaned the shower looking thing that goes in the resovoir..it tends to get clogged.!!

To answer your question the connector you found loose has nothing to do with your coolant level light. It's controlled by the magnetic float switch in the reservoir. Works like this except the one in the car is normally open: http://tinyurl.com/2krhw8

Thanks for the info guys, I am going to try those remedies you told me about, also thanks for clearing up the connector issue, I'm not familiar with a lot of the coolant system stuff on the car. I appreciate the help Jet jock, boosting 185, and veedubin. Thanks again

something i learned to clean motorcycle tanks and my overflow is to pour a lil purple power(degreaser) and water and then put a bunch of small nuts and bolts and shake the shit outta it...gets rust and anything thats coated the lining
