Wierd electral problem

To answere those who will ask...."did you check tsrm?"...yes i did. My problem consists of two problems. The no check engine light (bulb is good, cant retrieve codes.) The second and most puzzling thing to me is my car when idling goes from 1100rpm to 2200rpm back and forth constantly. It will do this until the car will die. When the rpm's are held at 2000rpm, the car has a violent miss:1zhelp:

Okay -

a) check the inside of the distributor cap for signs of tracking, or in the case of my Rover, actual metal filings from worn rotor arm

b) check for water in the plug gallery and for condensation on the inside of the plug leads.

c) check the leads going to the coil/igniter, make sure none of them are corroded

d) check the AFM connection?
