I stand by my statement that if the 1JZ would have come to the states, nobody would give a fuck about it. Because its "JDM Tyte yo" everybody seems to want one.

Well I can't say shit about my 7m, I went 2jz but that's because I love the motor, the 7m I had in my car had 180K miles, basic tune up and right before I took it out for the 2jz, I TRIED, yes TRIED, to blow it up, yea, no coolant, 2 qrts of oil, and put 500 miles on it before I gave up and tore it out. So I can't put down the 7m, even if I'm running a 2jz.

my 7mge is super reliable.i plan on going the na-t route which very few people have done cause i trust my motor and i know its better than gambling a random 7mgte that might have wrecked internals.i will only be using the best parts.(grade A used parts.new for bearings gaskets and bolts).did i mention all ricers hate the 7m with a PASSION .mi philoify is if i take car of my baby she will take care of me. boost i will meet u soon:evil2:

He meant that the only reason people only want the 1J because it didnt come factory here and thus is "ultra rare JDM" As for the 2J, 2J>>>..........1J Im still a die hard 7M fan though but if I ever went with something else definitely 2J or 1UZ

The 7m is a great motor, but it all depends on the how the driver sees it. Any supra is capable of blowing up. Just drive it wrong and you'll see. I chose to go 2jz because I wanted to try something difficult so I could say 'hey, I did that!'. I miss my 7m at times, because it was never the engine I had trouble with. It was always the chassis, or the turbo, but not the engine.

Funny you should mention that. Seems like everyone doing a 2JZGTE swap are doing them from JDM Clips. Damn 2JZGTE USDM are expensive as hell here.

The people that are going NA-T are using american cars, due to the 2JZGE costing about the same as 2 candy bars and a soda.

If the 2JZ is so great, why all the nuthugging on the 1JZ? Is it that the 2J is a difficult swap? I would think they would be similar.

Wait....1JZ is nowhere close to its younger, more refined big brother. But hey, what do I know, i'm just a 7M fan.

Yes they are lol

Not to threadjack - but the FD RX-7 guys are now getting heavily into 2jzgte swaps as well. They even make conversion kits for around $7K... THAT MEANS LESS 2JZ's FOR US! NOOOOO....

I miss the low end bulky torque from my old 7M.

I'm a JZ'er currently, but I have nothing but love for 7M's.
I just wanted to try something different for a change.

GrimJack summed it up in a short and sweet sentence, though:

"The weak link in the 7M is the owner"

I never understood why any one would want to put a smaller motor in there car, if making the most power is the goal. It seems like an import only thing. Whatever.

I made 400+rwhp on my stock internalled(+MHG) 7M for 4 years with no issues. Now I have a built 7M that is making close to 500rwhp at 17psi (pump gas) on a little GT35R(.68A/R). And I bet I paid less than swapping in a used 2JZ.
JZ What??

Well, considering the number of MKIVs, I'm pretty sure if they have a 2jzgte in it, they don't swap it out, just make it faster. What other US car came with a 2jzgte?? Tons of NA 2jz's out there.

2jzgte cost more, and has a lot more parts that need to be sourced, as a 1jz swap is well, almost a drop in as they came in these cars.

Perfect example of another dumbass 7M owner, the 7M is a strong reliable engine, just as reliable as a JZ if its built and maintained correctly.

Its pretty easy to justify a jz swap, for reliability you cant beat have a stock motor, anything you do to make a motor faster makes it less reliable, so why not put a motor with over 60 more hp even if its more smaller in size. i my opinion my stock 1j has more torque than my stock 7m.

I dont know why people would buy a torqueless¹ 1JZ or 2JZ over a 7M? all those RX7 & 240 guys are high not swapping in a 7M.
After all the 7M issues are the 99% drivers fault.

7M-GE 200hp/190ft#s ~$500 + driver induced mfg defect bhg priceless.
7M-GTE 230hp/264ft#s ~800 + driver induced mfg defect bhg priceless.
1JZ-GTE 280hp/268ft#s ~$800 +² long block.
2JZ-GE 230hp/220ft#s ~$200 + ² + NA-T conversion up to 400hp reliably all stock!
2JZ-GTE 320hp/320ft#s ~$1400 + ².

Note:¹ Even though the 1JZ is torqueless it still haves more torque then the 7MGTE
Note:² All JZ series engines are subject to additional ~300 bellhousing if manuel.
