what's the difference?

I have a 87 mk3 turbo 5 speed. What's the difference between Idle speed control valve(ISC) and Idle Air Control valve(IAC) or people just call them differently.
One more question I got an air intake adapter and took out the honey combed to put the K&N filter. is it ok to take the honey combed out?

ISC and IAC are the same thing.

I would have left the honeycomb in. It's supposed to smooth the airflow for accurate sampling. Let us know how your car runs without it.
