what type of puter you guys running?

so, ok. im bored. sitting here doing maintance to my puter as we speak.

i see this is a online community, so what kind of computer does everyone have?
(processor, memory, hdd ???)

ill go first.
3.06 pentum 4
1 gb memory
200 gb hdd
dvd/cd burner

compaq presario sr1350nx.

not a bad lil machine. so, whos next?:evil2:

2.30 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (that's a dual core and it's overclocked)
2GB DDR400, CAS2 RAM
ATi X800 XL video card (PCI Express)
2x200GB Sata + 160GB IDE hard drives
DVD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-RW (yes, that's three optical drives)

I've got a fan controller, seasonic power supply, fanless video card, and very quiet CPU fan which makes this computer barely audible over the ambient noise. The processor is only at 28-35 degrees celcius when it's idle, and I don't think I've ever seen it break 55 degrees celcius under full load.

My other two computer are a linux server and an Apple iBook.

im with lanky, i gave my younger brother money and let him loose in a computer store. i can push buttons and click on things so it works for me. saved some money by scavenging a few parts from an old ass computer we had laying around.

well all i really do on my computer is check SM, email, DL music, and play TFC.

not too big of a chance of getting a virus that way :biglaugh:

384 megs of ram
40 gig hd
Cdrw+dvd drive
Running XP Pro Corporate edition
Harmon/Kardon premium sound ( best sound ive ever heard on a laptop)

Overall a great laptop... screen looks great, quick performance. Just want to upgrade my ram, 384 just aint cuttin it anymore. Got it cheap from a friend.

384 seems a lil wrong. should be sumthing like 512. maybe you have shared memory and the video card is stealing it.

and yes you should deal with the anti-virus. if you dl music you could get one. i had a bad song once and it tore my system apart.

You can get a virus without doing anything if you don't patch your operating system when vulnerabilities are found. Also, patches aren't always available right away so you should always be running a firewall and a virus scanner.

right? a anti virus, firewall and some sort of spyware protection too. its all needed.

boost fiend, 384MB would be 128 + 256. Not the most efficient configuration but it does work. I got 1GB in my laptop.

well i have a firewall, and i spyware scanner, i just dont want to pay for an antivirus program. i havnt found a good free one yet. they are all trial copies. ill have to try and dig up a free copy on bittorrent.com or something :biglaugh:

i dont have the money to spend on things like that for the computer at the moment sadly.

I don't know much..but i do run Norton Anti-virus utilities, Firewall etc...and I keep em updated too...havent really had any problems

avg is really good! ive used it for numbers of years. never had a problem yet. get it! its free and find things that could be a virus/malicious(sp?). fast and free. well worth the time.

***secret p.s.: if ya have norton, i know of a way to *fix* it till like the year 2017***
