As an 87' MKIII Supra turbo owner with only 75K on the original engine, I know that I will be needing to replace the head gasket soon.
I have always wanted to do a 1UZ swap, but, in the past month, had mixed feelings about doing so. With the few numbers of people doing the swap and the custom work it looks like you would have to do, I feel that I would not have the knowledge, help, and the understanding to do such a project.
My original plans were to just fix the head gasket problem now, and start building up the 7M. I understand that 7M are not the most reliable, nor would the 1UZ have been, once you start getting into the bigger numbers. That has brought me to the idea of doing a 1JZ-GTE swap.
While looking on ebay, i have found a place, nagano japanese, that is selling a 1JZ-GTE for a price that I can afford right now. I just wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into before I made the decision to buy such an engine.
Will the tranny I have right now work with the 1JZ?
Are there any specific engines from a certain car I want to stay away from?
How easy is it to do the swap?
Is a reasonable price for a 50K mile 1JZ with and uncut wiring harness and everything still in working condition close to $1200?
