Sorry for the late reply. Been a while since I looked at one up close, but assuming that's the starter mounting face above it, the red is circling either the dipstick mounting provision, or possibly a provision for the oil level sensor. One of those two is on the pan though, if I recall correctly. Like I said, been a while.

Found out its for the crank sensor
