What does this wire near oil dipstick do? It's a black wire that goes into the black cylinder when you look over from the passenger side of the car, to the left of the oil dipstick. Is it safe to drive around with it like this?

So if I were to take out the black cylinder, AC would shoot out? What are the proper steps I should take to replace it?
Yes it would and that tube is easily bent so take care when taking out the switch. You need to have the system evacuated before removing it and preferably someplace that won't try to charge you for refilling it with the freon they just took out.
How do I get rid of the freon? Is it something I can do myself or is it dangerous and/or toxic? If I were to get another one from the pick and pull, what precautions should I take?
