Way to check if head gasket was changed before?

Hey guys is there a way to check if your cars head gasket was changed before? (something to look at in engine) I have no contact info on previous owners and wants to know how recent, or if it was changed. Its got 165 k miles and its hard getting this high without blowing one.

IIRC, there isn't so much a way to see if the gasket has been chaged. However, I think that if the tick marks on the cam gears at TDC do not perfectly line up with the tick marks on the head; then it has been machined. indicating the HG was changed.

Mine was toyota changed (I have the records) and according to the tick mark theory the head was machined as well.
