Does anybody know what the specs are on the w58 trans? I am curious to know the hp and the tq ratings. I searched "w58" and came up empty
I am considering putting one in my 92 turbo i dont plan to make it to crazy
my ultimate power goal is about 400-450 to the wheels
i am also debating building the 7m to do that or swaping in a 1j
i want it to be dependable and hold up as in a year or two im going to give it to my wife
i plan on getting an mk4 for myself:biglaugh:

think the w58 will hold up?

a W58 won't be very smooth shifting after running 450 rwhp through it for a while...

r154 ftw

and for the 1j you can use all 7m clutch components, all you need is a 1/2 j flywheel and bellhousing

i dont know im going to see how far i can push my w58. 3rd geer is wineing now but all the gears do expt 4th. {direct drive} and I hate to say the r154 is soo over priced right now. Then again so is the w58. I just refuse to pay 400 for a r154.

$400 is cheap for something that won't grenade on you. Just to illustrate just how overbuilt the R154 is, look at this pic...

Would a 1j be more reiable, last longer at that power level than the 7m?
I know the 7m is capable of double that but I am looking for the most fesable way to accomplish this with longevity and it will be driven alot
i was thinking of the w58 right now based on the price
as it stits now the car doent move the auto trans is smoked and i need to get it mobile soon as i am going to be moving and with the move dodnt want to spend r153 $ right now so i guess i will just try to find another auto for the time being and do the r154 when i tear into the motor

toyota gave the turbo models a beefier tranny for a reason, i would stick with the r154, otherwise your just asking for trouble later on.
