vsv question

so i have been running rich and i have no boost leaks and someone mentioned to check my vsv. i pulled one from underneath the intake manifold and did looked at the tsrm for testing it but mine dosent look like the one that they show... this is what i pulled off assuming that it was the vsv now it dosent matter what end i blow on it will pass through does that mean that it is bad?

also what does that little black knob do?

NDBoost just helped me and found this about the vsv.. i was under emissions so i know that for sure its fuel vsv... and that it is bad

If that goes bad, it will not allow any signal to the FPR and will make you run hella rich under vaccum and dangerously rich under boost.
If you care for your car, bypass it...

wait what do you mean by bypass it? how would i do that just tee it off? i was planning on just getting a new one but i think its going to cost a fortune!

this would explain why im running rich and getting really bad gas millege?

take the hose that comes off the plenum and connect it directly to the FPR.
also: That "knob thingy" is a filter.

whats the benefit of having one vs not having one? i was just going to go get a new one but if i really dont need it

*update* i just went and looked for the other vsv to see if that one is bad as well... and the one that i orginally pulled off does go to the egr...

the other one goes to the fpr and seems to be working fine... although on the top part where it is red/orange there is a crack in the plastic but dosent seem to affect it



do i need the egr vsv? also will having a bad egr vsv cause running rich?



*update* well i thought the fpr vsv was working because i could blow through like the test without power... but now that i put power to it and tried the test that way it dosent work right... so looks like i will be looking for a new vsv

alright so i just went to toyota dealer and they want like $80 for the egr one and $60 for the fpr...

i need more info on the bypass... will anything be hurt by the bypass? can i just connect the two hoses that went into the vsv?

The fuel pressure up VSV is active only during hot starts. It opens the FPR vacuum port to atmosphere for 60-90 seconds after the start...increasing fuel pressure to clear any vapor. It helps to smooth idle for a few minutes. After appx 60-90 seconds the FPR port is reconnected to the intake manifold.

The only thing you may notice is a more difficult start when the motor is hot. You bypass by directly routing the vac line from the throttle body to the FPR.

If you have an EGR system on the car...you don't want to bypass.

If you have removed the EGR system, just plug the vac line that goes to the EGR valve...or take the EGR VSV out completely and plug the line from the top of the throttle body.

i still have egr system on car so how do i go about fixing it so i dont need to get a vsv... if i keep a bad on on there what would happen?

oh i never saw that about cleaning them!!! i know how they work ill just do some more searching... ill figure it out
