VPC Chip?

so i tried installing a vpc in the car, hardwired, but i couldnt get it to run correctly. i have a suspicion that the vpc rom chip might be wrong, all i see is E164 written on it. The guy said he is positive that its the right 550 mk3 chip but im not sure if thats true. What else could be causing the car to get code 31?

Emp have you the resistor correctly in place?

As for the Roms, the "E" designated ROMS are for the Fcon

the resistor is on jumpers 1 and 2, using a 2.2k ohms one.
so it should work? or no? i just tried it on another mk3 (89+) and it seemed to work...it idled pretty well but couldnt rev it...but on my car something is wrong...i keep getting code 31 with the map ecu2 and the vpc....im going crazy now...

Have you checked the Loom plug that goes to the ECU? make sure the pin hasnt pulled back and isnt making a connection to the ECU KS pin??
Cant see how both the VPC and MAPECU2 are throwing a 31 unless both are wired/confirgured wrongly.
