I'm about to get my car registered in VA since I'm a resident there being military and not having NJ registration. Couple questions about the inspection requirements.

1. I have a small rock chip on my windshield. It's about 3/8'' wide. Will that fail?
2. I made my own 3'' exhaust and I have a high flow cat and it doesn't look like your standard cat. It goes from 3'' and tapers to 4'' and goes back to 3''. It is a cat though. Just not flanges. Will the cat looking different and having an exhaust hurt me.

I have some more. But, I'm leaving work now. I'll edit later. Thanks for looking though.

If the rock chip is simply a small pit in the windshield, it should pass. If it is spidering at all (or if it has more than one crack outreaching) it will fail. I'm assuming since it's 3/8" it's spidered a bit... I'm not sure what the technical regulation cutoff diameter is, but that's probably near it if not exceeding.

As far as the cat goes, I've been told that as long as you have a cat on your car (even if it's performance / aftermarket) you will pass so long as your car still produces within the designated range of emissions for its year. I checked out a few sites on line and didn't really find anything (but that was info from my local Toyota dealership).

Also (just a side note), my dealership also told me that on cars like our Supra that have two cats, they will still pass so long as our "main" cat is in place. So if you have a turbo back exhaust with your first cat removed and a high-flow second cat you'll still be fine.
