Using the diagnostics box..

Hey.

How does the diagnostics work? Are you supposed to connect a diagnostics "reader" to it? How do you check engine fault codes?

various components and comp outputs can be tested in the diag port. i think i saw a scanner that plugged into it before, but it is usually used with a jumper, volt meter or oscilloscope.

To the write-up you linked to: What's a SST? It it just a wire to short the two terminals?

Special Serice Tool, IIRC. But in that case it's just a peice of wire.

Does anyone have another explanation/guide to read the error codes? It's the timing and the extraction of the error codes I find hard to understand..

I got it at last.. with the originale link.. Pretty easy when you first understand it. lol.

I got error code 24, 31 and 52. So I guess I'll have to just start troubleshooting...

24 - Intake air Temp Sensor Signal
31 - Air Flow Meter Signal
52 - Knock Sensor Signal

Does anyone have any "experience" with any of these codes? If so how was it solved?

I havent had code 52 personally but ive known plenty thats had the dreaded code 52. To fix it check your wiring first; sometimes a knock sensor rewire is needed and it uses shielded wire. Sometimes its as simple as it not being plugged in since the connectors come loose so easily. Sometimes its the sensor itself. Either way this one is very crucial and your car should [someone correct me if im wrong] put itself in limp mode when you've got this code, and it should definitely run like crap with this code still there.

Ive had the other codes before; but only because i forgot to hook them up after putting engine in.

haha but yeah I live in the US or Houston. I moved here when i was about 14 years old in 2004; got the supra when i was about 17-18ish. [hows that for a second car, considering i could only dream about a car like this if I still lived in norway hahaha]

OP: The air intake temp sensor is in the afm, so the above might be necessary.
